>all those 10/10 album that everyone praises that you just can't seem to get into

Someday I'll "get" the Glow Pt. 2, I swear.
>>
I hate that album tbqh
>>
>>71602448
A lot of /mu/ is unlistenable. Including The Glow Pt 2. Don't be such a sheep. Think for yourself, dude. Try and expand your taste, but don't force yourself to listen to music you don't like to get internet cred with a bunch of neets and morons.
>>
>>71602448
Dude, if you don't "get" an indie folk album, you're probably beyond saving.
>>
>>71602596
I'm sure he 'gets' it. What he doesn't get is why /mu/ soaks their collective panties over it. He's not alone.
>>
I'm trying to "get" Disintegration. I truly love a few of the songs off the album but the other half I find pretty boring.
>>
>>71602644
>What he doesn't get is why /mu/ soaks their collective panties over it
Isn't that what "getting" an album is? Understanding the appeal, whether you like it or not?
>>
>>71602448
Loveless. I've been trying to listen to it since I was 15 and now I'm 21 and still can barely get through the first track.
>>
MBDTF and ITAOTS are garbage
>>
>>71602448
Not everyone loves everything. Music is a personal thing. It's like, I'm sure that The Notebook is a good movie, but I don't like it because I'm a man. Personal taste. You don't have to like everything. It's good to listen to different things, but don't torture yourself. If it's not fun, what's the point? Come back to it later. If you want. If not. That's cool too.
>>
>>71602678
Maybe he doesn't get it because he's not a feelsy, sissy Mary.
>>
>>71602727

For me it's more of a feeling of missing out on something great.

Like, say you don't like apples, and everyone is talking about how fucking amazing apple pie is. And you're kind "dang, I wish I could enjoy that in the same way you are, that seems great"
>>
Haven't discovered a new artist I love in over a year. It's an awful feel.
>>
>>71602596
oh stop being dense, it's not "just" indie folk, it's weird as fuck and there is nothing wrong with admitting that
>>
>>71602782
If you don't fall in love with this album from the moment you hear that super loud distorted drum come in on the first track then you might as well just forget about Phil's work
>>
>>71602782
Yeah. But it speaks to you, or it doesn't. I know that there's lots of stuff that I didn't like at first that grew on me. Some stuff, the more I heard it, the more I hated it. Apples and oranges. Like harsh vocals. Used to hate it. I still don't like them overall, but I've learned appreciate when someone does it well. Some I've actually grown to like. My ear has adapted, but it's still not something that I would ever get really excited about.
>>
>There's probably an album you'd give an instant 10 to and would be your favorite album but it's some obscure cassette/private pressing rotting in someone's attic, never to be heard again
>>
>>71602448

That fucking banana underground album. Awful production, painfully boring and unchallenging instrumentation and structures, lazy lyricism ('well I guess, that I just don't know' is so clumsy and lame).

Especially when it came out around fucking PET SOUNDS and SGT. PEPPER'S, albums that literally innovated and blew people's minds with complexity.

What you have to understand about /mu/core is that it's not even /mu/'s taste. They're just circle jerking albums that some critic has lost his shit for. Scaruffi, Christgau, Pitchfork or Needledrop. 99% of /mu/core can be traced back to one of those 4.
>>
>>71602877
I used to feel the same way. I decided to listen again for the 50th anniversary, andI haven't been able to stop. It took a long while to click.

Venus In Furs is cool
>>
>>71602995

man I've been REALLY trying to like it, but what the fuck is there to like? There's almost no substance. A quick read through the lyrics show how the band had nothing to say. There's nothing to cling on to, no great hooks or great lines. Is it like the ironic shitty music thing that people love about it, a la Ramones?
>>
>>71603065
The mood of the songs is what I love. Sunday Morning, Venus in Furs, All Tommorows Parties, are all totslly different in mood, but still good songs. It's hard to explain, but once it clicks, you'll get it.

For a while almost every artist I discovered independently of /mu/ became poseurcore within the week. I know I shouldn't care what other people think, but you couldn't (or can't, even now) discuss these bands without a whole fucking contingent of enlightened gurus coming in and telling you that you don't actually enjoy the music and the reason you are actually listening to this music is because you're not sincere and you want to blend in with the crowd (the solution to this of course being following their opinion instead).

And while there are mature people who can listen to these artists without being pretentious assholes (i.e. a lot of RYMers) or worrying about looking like a poseur, god knows that a lot of the newer people on this board who want to assimilate will see this anti-"poseurcore" shit and then start parroting those opinions so they can fit in and then never listen to music that they could potentially like.

And maybe some people would say that it's a good thing. Maybe it will weed out the people who care about image more than they do music. But I am still a gigantic tool, and I was an even bigger one back then, and I tried hard to blend in by doing everything else /mu/ did and their young minds are so impressionable.

Hell, this is just a motherfucking music discussion board on a fucking anime site, I don't know what the hell am I being so overdramatic for.

>>71602448
It's okay, OP. I didn't really care for it, either. Just listen to what you want to, and maybe after listening to more music you will find that you do appreciate it a lot more than when you first heard it. Or maybe you'll return to it and still not like it. Either way, just keep an open mind, listen to all the music you can, and don't beat yourself up for not "getting" or liking whatever album is being shilled by /mu/ or Fantano or whoever else.
>>
>>71603366
I think poseurcore was more of a trend, people don't give that much of a shit now.
>>
>>71603396
>people don't give that much of a shit now

Look at the next Les Rallizes Denudes threads that show up. They are filled with contrarians deriding the band as overrated poseurcore and anyone who listens to them hipsters.

Once again, I shouldn't care what they think, but my blood boils.
>>
>>71603065
>A quick read through the lyrics show how the band had nothing to say.
the lyrics are actually the high point of the album itself, ditching the tremendous influence it had IMO. they took an extremely unique stance, focusing on taboo subject matters for that time period (prostitution, drug deals, BDSM, generally shady things) and described them in gratuitous detail.
>>71602877
>Especially when it came out around fucking PET SOUNDS and SGT. PEPPER'S, albums that literally innovated and blew people's minds with complexity.
this is a bad mentality to have when listening to music. music is not always about complexity. sure, the two albums you mentioned are great and i would consider the former of which the most important record of all time, but you have to look at TVU&N in a completely different way.
>innovated
TVU&N did this even harder than the two records you mentioned.
>>
>>71602653
Pornography is better. Disintegration is just boring as hell
>>
>>71602448
It's for fags who want to kill themselves.
Most people grow out of that phase, but it's pretty good while you're in it.
