Ooooh this album is a gut punch. I love it.

I especially like how the lyrics become a part of the instrumentation.

Fantastic start to the thread. I really wish I could listen to these for the first time. Although I haven't listened to LYSF since new years eve 2015, so I'm saving it for a special moment sometime soon.
>>
>>71599674
I can't explain why they appeal to me, DG is music that, if summarized to me, I would never actually listen to. But I checked out exmilitary and I loved it but couldn't explain why. I don't know it's weird.

I'm listening to LYSF as we speak. But I agree, it's better saved for a special occasion. What kind of weather do you think best fits LYSF?

I always gave gray skies to F#A# Infinity. There's gotta be some kind of weather that demands you listen to LYSF

>What kind of weather do you think best fits LYSF

Hmm, I don't know. I've always listened to it at night, but most music sounds better at night. I'm sure snow would make it a comfier experience.
>>
>>71599788
Good point. See, for bands like Set Fire to Flames, I always pick a blistering hot day, a still day (no wind or little commotion outside) and sit in the loneliest room of my house and watch the dust fall.

But that's not GY!BE. I think some of the noise and samples of LYSF are best suited towards night time.
>>
>>71599773

It's not that they don't floor me, it's just that I wouldn't trade subsequent listens for a fresh one. I'm the type to constantly revisit albums that amaze me. One of my favorite albums is probably The Great Annihilator and that shit made my jaw drop the first time but I appreciate it more now that I've gained further familiarity with it.

Homogenic? Unusually abrasive electronic textures for a late 90s pop album accompanied with string arrangements and an aggressive narrative about a woman on the prowl. Honestly, it's pretty comparable to some of Radiohead's later stuff, especially In Rainbows.
>>
>>71600006
Thanks for filling me in. I love albums with running narratives or stories or things like that. I do remember it having beautiful string arrangements, but maybe I was underplaying the electronics section

>>
>>71600044
currently taking break from BoC because 25% of scrobbles are them, don't want to spoil them for life.
>>
>>71600031

If you love running narratives then it doubles as the first act of a loose trilogy with Vespertine and Vulnicura, the former seeing Homogenic's protagonist finding and embracing love and the latter seeing the steady disintegration and loss of that love, and it closely mirrors what Bjork was going through at those times in her life. It's not an established trilogy or anything but they do sort of end up panning out that way.

When I first listened to this my only extensive music experience was with Radiohead, so this turned my idea of music on its head. I first heard this driving home from Ohio. It was long as hell and decent

Surprised I haven't seen this one yet

Loveless is such an obvious pick for so many things, it deserves it but it means that mentioning it all the time is pointless.
>>
>>71599606
ive never heard this befoe but this shit is fucking crazy good thanks anon
>>
>>71604497
>>71604383
I mean considering how many people, including myself, say they only got it after multiple listens it's not that surprising.
>>
>>71604535
Angelic Process is ridiculously good
>>
>>71604544
It's still a very distinct sounding album

>listen to the leak on new years eve a week or so before it comes out
>love it more than I thought I would
>listen to it more over the next few days but then give it a rest
>wake up the morning he dies to see a bunch of texts from my friends who know I'm a huge Bowie fan
>relisten to this, still in shock
>after it ends put Space Oddity on
>"ground control to major tom..."

Love this album a little too much, but it doesn't make the cut EXCEPT for I Don't Love.

The first time that intro started and I had to turn it up, was confused by the vocal overlay, and then that fucking wall of sound. So fucking great.

> Candy says,
I've come to hate my body

Also I can't determine if I should listen to that song in mono or stereo. I like stereo.
>>
>>71600044
this, I've listened to this album so many fucking times that I can barely even make it through single tracks.

I wish I could listen to Loveless again for the first time. I'm not sick of it, but it really changed my outlook on the way I look at music. Maybe it's not the album itself I thrive hear again for the first time, but rather the feeling of having a complete perceptual shift that I wish to once again have. Some things have come close, but not quite to the level of Loveless.

School Girl Distortional Addict would be nice to listen to again, but honestly it keeps getting better and better over time. Just the beginning of the album is so perfect. Omoide In My Head is such an apt way to start off the album and the idea of memory and nostalgia is very appropriate to the listening experience.
>>
>>71603408
Nah I wouldn't go back to first listen of this. Maybe back the third listen or so when it clicked.
>>
>>71606130
This.

I hated the feeling when the songs just pass through your head without triggering something. It's like your brain shut off the dopamine. Every once in a while it will come back together, but it only makes you sadder when the next time it doesn't.

I also had that shift in perception. It's like one day your blithely riding your bike and then your a little boy in Spain. I miss jumping down the rabbit hole where everything is new.

>hitting those falsetto notes near the end of the title track

I cried harder than Will Hunting cried when Sean kept telling him, "it's not your fault." I truly bless every day for my having found this musician, as the catalyst for learning to stop worrying and enjoy life.

"Divine" truly is the only word one can use, to describe this album.
