Why does he hate Aphex Twin so much?
>>
racism
>>
>post-african repetitions

what did he mean by this?
>>
For some background - this is how he was thinking, he was really into Aurobindo for a while

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-AetEtL42M

And I like how he BTFO'd that guy, even if he had to invoke le ubermensch to get there
>>
>>71596130
How most western pop music is based around a looping rhythm or "groove"

It comes from African & African-influenced music (e.g. Jazz & the blues)
>>
>>71596104
He's jealous he can't make good Electronic music without it sounding like a robot vomiting ramen noodles underwater.
>>
>>71596403
that would probably sound p good tbqh
>>
>>71596184
What the fuck is he saying? Does he even understand what he's saying? How is any of this related to the guy's question? How euphoric can a human being be?
>>
>>71596538
it relates in this way

>is electronic music dehumanising?

>no, humans are just changing

IMO he was right, but that won't be clear for some time
>>
>>71596622
He changed the subject. What a fucking dolt.
>>
>>71596104
He didn't. Aphex has spoken positively recently about meeting him.
>>
>>71597426
not really, it all depends on how you define human
if you think it's just your flesh and bood then you will probably never see what he's getting at
>>
>there are people ITT who don't know who Karlheinz Stockhausen is and think he is an idiot
return to /r/indieheads pls and thank you
>>
>>71597497
He makes non music. And people eeat it up.
>>
Isn't this the guy who applauded terrorists and celebrated the death of thousands of Americans?
>>
>>71598109
Yes, and he did kind of have a point in calling 9/11 the greatest performance piece of our time
>>
>>71598109
Why WOULDN'T you applaud the death of thousands of burgers?
>>
>>71598109
He didn't celebrate it tard
>>
Because he's poor man Philip Glass
>>
>>71596104
Stockhausen is a genius, but ignore about 95% of the stuff he says. I'm somewhere between thinking he does it for shock value and that he's actually insane
>>
>>71598826
1. He's dead since 2007, he doesn't say anything anymore
2. He was an eccentric and saw the world differently

Creatives who are one generation older commonly resent the successes of creatives who are one generation younger. The reason why this is so, is because the older generation are old enough and have been in the game long enough that they catch all the little tricks and references that are in the younger person's work, and they know that this stuff has been done before, even if the pleb audience of today doesn't. It hits especially hard when the younger guy is biting stuff from your own playbook.

This resentment of the older against the younger requires the older to have a blind spot to their own copying and cribbing of ideas, which inevitably happens in any human endeavor - original ideas are very, very rare, and even when they do happen, they still require copypasta-ing of lots of different things to crop up.

This is why plagarism from one source is "bad", while plagarism from multiple sources is research. People get really really buttmad about this stuff, especially when they have an opportunity to monetize around their own authorshitp, only for someone else to have done same.
>>
>>71599261
Aphex Twin is just dumbed down, has nothing to do with imaginary bias, kid.
>>
>>71599423
dumbed down what?
>>
>>71599528
Well in your analogy Aphex is the successor to Stockhausen (blatantly wrong and stupid but). It follows that his comparatively basic understanding of rhythm, harmony, and timbre makes him a dumbed down comparison.
>>
Are there any modern composers with a more brilliant feel for rhythm than Stockhausen?
>>
>>71599584
There are no modern brilliant music composers. Modern art music is dog shit and Stockhausen is a prime example of that.
>>
>>71599629

RYM education huh? You couldn't think of Harrison Birtwistle, Esa Pekka Salonen, Wolfgang Rihm, Nico Muhly, etc.?

John Adams is the only one you mentioned with any significance.
>>
>>71599551
oh nevermind I should've said I didn't write that. I agree that he's not a successor to Stockhausen in a strict sense.

>This is an improvisation
Yeah, same with any composer.
Every great piece of music comes from improvisation, that's the creative process you mong.
Just because one composer can put it out on keyboard for everyone to hear doesn't make them an exceptional composer.
>>
>>71599832
3 literal whos, a dead composer, and a composer who hasn't written anything significant in 10+ years.
Brilliant m8, you sure know modern classical music.

>>
>>71599877
I'm just saying, this is modern classical music taste on /mu/. Obscurophiles who seek out RYM or /mu/ credibility and shun the actual geniuses because their work is 2deep4them.

It's legitimately infuriating to see people dismiss contemporary classical music when they don't understand any of the music that actually represents it.
>>
>>71599736

Why there is always brass staccatos in contemporary music? Is it a meme?

Or maybe one of the listed composers' son. He brands him like if they were Apple products. Not a humble musician behaviour

I mean it's a good timbre. Woodwind staccatos lack bite whereas Brass carries weight and an impressive timbral effect.

>>
>>71600139
Post one of your compositions.
>>
>>71600073
I gave you 5 examples and the first thing you did was complain that you didn't recognise 3 of them. Ba-dum-tss? I am more familiar than I'd like to be with contemporary classical. I wish I could forget this shit. I've been swimming through it since the early 1990s trying, hoping to find a good composer. It doesn't fucking exist. Sometime in the last 70 years classical music just died somehow. It's all either phantasmagorically simplistic or various shades of pseudointellectual masturbation.
>>
>>71600167
Composition isn't my job nor do I want to be a composer, so I have no interest in sharing my fun projects that would receive ire from someone clearly only looking to criticize.
>>71600182
I mean I really don't know what to say other than either:
1. You don't understand music on a technical level in order to appreciate these musics.
2. Your taste in music prefers the simplistic due to an immature or outdated worldview.
>>
>>71600154
Well you asked if its a meme, and I responded "Yeah but what's wrong with it really"
Staccatos are in common across contemporary music

Next time should I not answer your sarcastic questions?

(love Gesualdo though)
>>
>>71600219
Well could you find a post where I criticized one of the composers you mentionned?

I must admit that I'm not a huge fan of contemporary music, probably because i'm still stuck in the music of Prokofieff, Gesualdo, Rachmaninoff, Bach among others. Modern composers will come after. I'm young, I have the time to explore what I want to explore.
>>
>>71600266
To be clear, I assumed everyone responding to my query was in the same boat as: >>71599629

If you aren't part of his crew then I have no quarrel. I totally understand taking your time with your studies and I think it actually would be harmful for people to start with Feldman/meme and Stockhausen.
>>

>>
>>71600314
It's all just shitposting online. There's not much point trying to have a qualitypost argument here because it won't be reciprocated.

That being said, I haven't yet met a critic of contemporary classical music that wasn't either cherrypicking examples without even understanding them (a la "Piss Christ shows art is dead") or having some flawed argument about art aesthetics that relies on beliefs from 500 years ago ("Art is beauty and if it isn't beautiful it isn't art").

Modern music is *nothing but* a status game. A collection of in-jokes. Just like postmodernist philosophy (Lacan, Derrida etc), gender studies, and all the other assorted post-WWII intellectual abominations. The more music theory you know, the more obvious this becomes.
