St Anger is a great and seriously underrated album. After their 90s albums everyone was expecting them to go back to their thrash style, but they took it a step further and embraced their hardcore roots. It's a shame they sold out with that buttrock loudness wars album Death Magnetic, but Lulu made up for it.

They linger way too long on riffs that go nowhere and don't evolve into anything.

It has problems, but I think there is a lot of greatness in St. Anger. I was also 13 or 14 when it released, so it has a nostalgia factor for me though

Funny, I had this conversation with a friend a few weeks ago.

They do 3 minute songs then basically replay the song again before it ends.

There was no need to keep going for another 3 minute on each song.

I hate to be a fag but St. Anger is probably their best album. I dont care for metallica though.
