I live in Iowa and even in the college towns/"big" cities the music scene is nearly non-existent. Iowa City and Des Moines are the only towns with any bands worth two shits.

There are a lot of bluegrass and country bands, a couple of classic rock cover bands, and one deathcore band, I'm pretty sure. The guy from the deathcore band also has a dungeon synth project.

Flagstaff here. The jazz and such is decent, but I'm not too sure about anything else. Some of it folk, but there's a lot of death metal that I'm not really into. And lots of new-age hipstershit, but I'm not into that either.

There are no local music events, no bands, except one and they were just a metal band. The producers I even know about produce what every motherfucker and they momma likes, Trap. Not much going on since Rubber Gloves closed. House show scene is going pretty strong and I think Andy's is stepping up a bit.

As far as what happened, hard to say. I think it's a combination of venues realizing they can make more money with more conventional acts and the scene of 4+ years ago being too exclusive. Most of the bands from that time are gone now, but alot of them were kinda dickheads that got too far up their own asses

gimme so rva stuff, as far as I'm aware it's pretty quiet right now. Austin has Skeleton, Enemy One, Nosferatu, etc a whole crop of new young bands with loads of lineup overlap. At the same time, heavy hitters (ie Glue) seem to be kicking it back into gear. Lotta bands playing a lotta different styles of hardcore, and doing them all really well.
