Yo guys quick question.

Do you make an effort to have the high e string ringing when playing an A shape major bar chord?

for example A-maj with the root on the 5th string.

I noticed I've actually always muted the high string with my middlefinger because its making the bar.

Is it better to get a metal tone from the amp, or to get it through pedals? I am currently debating into getting an amp that has a really nice clean clannel, and then get the metal tone throught pedals. Or get an amp that has a lot of gain and a decent clean channel(this ones are more expensive mind you). So what do you guys think.
>>
>>71548340
Amp for studio, pedal for live shows.
>>
>>71548340
an excellent clean channel and a pedalboard is a more flexible setup, but amp distortion sounds better.

>>
>>71547494
Nice anon. I was considering getting something along these lines but went with an RG450dx. I prefer the HSH pickup selection.

What kind of pickups did that come with btw? Did you replace them?
>>
>>71548340
before you go spending money on gear make sure you do your research. Not reviews and features of the amp, but the actual hardware and circuitry that goes into it. From there you can make a more informed decision. you should be able to explain with reason why you prefer x over y
>>
>>71548744
His songwriting, and soloing in general went down in quality after he left Ibanez imo. Still a wicked player, but yeah, he is missing that certain "something" that he had back in the good ol' days.
>>
>>71548827
Alright, that seems to be the smartest way of doing things. Do you get the blueprints of the circuitry and hardware from the brand's website? I will start using that approach to know "exactly" what I want. Thanks anon.
>>
>>71548919
circuitry was the wrong word. Although it is fun to by broken amps and take them apart. but, I do think there is value in understanding the basics of electricity and amplification.

Pic related. Yay or nay ?
fenders are pretty cheap compared to ESP man.
Only played Metalcore on EMGs for 15 years mainly in drop C with 12-56 strings.
As I grow older i'm looking to try my skills in other musics.

By other musics I mean blues and 70's rock.

This one is "cheap" and well made, just asking if I'm missing something or Its good and i should dive in.
Tried the elite and the pro and it sounded the same in the shop's Rockerverb mk2 , but this one in Orange and maple neck is boner-inducing.
Does anyone here has an Elite tele and want to talk about it ?
I own most actual orange amps at 50w or under, if that matters at all.

Guitarist in my old band had a Tweaker 88 head. It definitely seemed like a nice and diverse amp and it had some balls on it. Sadly I hated his distortion tone but I have a feeling it was just how he had it set (treble high and mids low)

I would definitely suggest trying one out before getting one though. I think a large portion of the negative reviews were due to them breaking (which happened to my buddy's amp as well) but I've read that this issue has subsided over time.

>His songwriting, and soloing in general went down in quality after he left Ibanez imo.

When was this exactly? IMO Metropolis pt. 2 was their last great album. Their 2000s output had some bright spots but nothing they've done since Portnoy left has been listenable.
>>
>>71549162
Oh, for sure. I guess I get kind of shy when i go to guitar stores to try new amps. I feel more comfortable playing alone. Sad, I know. I just thought Egnater had a really nice clean channel, so I will try them out once I go to the music store. My choices are between the Blackstar ht club 40, or the Egnater tweaker 40. Let's see which one wins.
>>
>>71549189
i sense sarcasm but whatever, learning new things is more valuable than arguing about steve vai
>>
>>71549228
Nah I understand what you mean. I've played numerous live shows but still feel uncomfortable playing in a guitar store. The problem with trying tube amps is you can't really get as loud as you need to anyway but you still want to play as loud as possible and then everyone is annoyed by you. So it's a lose lose situation
>>
>>71549225
So, 1999-2000, more or less.
If I am not mistaken, he recorded Metropolis pt. 2 while still being with Ibanez. However, left Ibanez shortly after the album was released.
>>
>>71549259
Dude, I wasn't being sarcastic. I was just trying to make a funny. I agree with you, learning new skills is something invaluable. Definitely better than to waste time shitposting about whether or not Steve Vai is gay.

Sorry for the sloppy playing (although I like to think it fits the vibe of the original song) and the signal dropping out in the last chorus (a symptom of the power issues I was experiencing at that particular venue) but I'm going directly into the amp, bypassing my pedals. I normally set my R-20's EQ up for my OD pedal so I just turned the amp's gain all the way up and got a fairly nice albeit slightly over-saturated grit that was fine for a quick fix.

I'm considerng the following:

Budget $2500

Fender Stratocaster $1800

Amp:
Fender Super Champ X2 HD head
Fender Blues Jr:
Fender Princeton 65 Reverb
Fender Super Sonic 22 Head

I have an ampeg 410he cab for the heads. I need to play at indoor volumes.

What do you guys recommend?
I"d prefer to spend the least amount of money but I want to have the final boss of amps.
Poorfags need not apply.

If you have the money and are a good player that would benefit from t then you should def buy it. I'm gonna tell you the truth, you want to avoid amps with gimmick shit like onboard effects. What you're shooting for is a tool that does one specific thing well. You see it all the time with retards trying to make something do everything and not getting good results.

In my opinion a guitarist should build what he's trying to do one component at a time and he'll always end up being more satisfied.
>>
>>71552056
This is probably the smartest thing in this thread, I bought a mustang III and it was the worst decision I ever made. I was convinced that I just made a shit purchase and tried out other amps with onboard effects but they all just sound so bad. Just build an arsenal of pedals with a nice amp and you'll be a million times more satisifed with the sound.

>Just build an arsenal of pedals with a nice amp and you'll be a million times more satisifed with the sound.

It depends on what you want to do. Pedals are a crutch for a lot of players. One good guitar and one good amp is definitely a good place to start for anybody who's ready to take playing guitar seriously.

I'd take you seriously if you actually played guitar.

Protip: no guitar stays perfect when it actually gets played. Frets wear, paint rubs off, hardware tarnishes, etc.

Dents, dings, and blemishes don't mean shit to a real player. Not even on a new guitar. If it sounded good a real player would still walk home with it, blemishes included. Period.

The only people concerned with this bullshit are mongs who don't play and have never seen the firsthand results of what actual playing does to an instrument, i.e. (you).

There is no discussion, you don't play. Period.

Personally, as someone who mostly buys b-stock and used items, I agree that blems are no big deal. But on the other hand I'm not a stupid consumer. Whether blems should or shouldn't affect the price, I dunno, but the fact is you generally can get money off because of blems. That's just how it works. So it does seem kinda silly to pay full price for something with blemishes. If you're someone that does like shiny new flawless stuff, god help you, but to get a brand new product blemish free shouldn't be hard when you're paying more than a couple hundred.

I hope that mindset catches on in classic car communities desu. It'll be much easier selling pieces of shit. I can't tell you how many guitars I've sold at a premium because of "genuine vintage wear"
>>
Sorta beginner here, having issues with tuning to this album.

Anybody know what it is? Quarter step down? Morning Sun sounds messy no matter where it's played, so it must be to some microtone.

Well, obviously guitars easily get damaged over time. But there's a difference between that, and buying a brand new guitar and finding out it's been chipped, or something. That's called bad quality control. Sure, it can sound nice, but if I paid top dollar for a nice guitar and I find out it's been scratched or dented even before I got to play it, I'd be pissed. Anyway, a guitar that sounds good is important, but if something that's new (not bought used) is damaged, that's a problem. Sure, you can play it, sure, it can sound nice, sure, you can go "eh, I'll live with it", which a lot of people certainly will, but it still would leave you annoyed.

brand new goods with damage =/= used goods with damage, also i was reffering to finish blemishes and colour bleeding on the binding which is common among cheaper guitars when buying new, but it's to be expected when you pay $300 not when you're paying $1,500.

The amp series goes for 99 bucks, but it comes along with clean amp, a rhythm guitar amp, and the lead amp and three fx pedals shared across the three amps, A delay, Lo fi pedal, and a reverb.
And honestly given the fact that this is made by JST, Joey has studio usage in mind and all thse pedals, amps, and build in cabinet responses all go great together.
Thinking of showing off the amps in a mix video if I ever get over my fear of speaking in video.

I personally think that 95% of everyone that plays blues is a poser. I include myself.

Why?

It doesn't have to do with race or profession or money.

It has to do with the fact that the vast majority of us guitar players discovered blues when we were learning guitar. We learned our first pentatonic scale and as it turns out, we could make something sufficiently resembling blues with it. So maybe we got sidetracked on our way to learning jazz or shred metal or whatever and started to learn about this music that we could reasonably imitate. I sincerely had no idea about blues until my first teacher pointed out, hey, here's a blues scale.

And suddenly I am a bluesman. A 14 year old white, hispanic bluesman.

So do I like the blues because I have a sincere liking and respect for it? Or because I found out I could somewhat play it and tell people, hey check me out, I'm playing blues!

So I've been on this lifelong quest to escape that and to gain some sincere understanding of the blues, and I don't think I'm quite there yet.
