>>
I'm too scared to listen to this album right now
Which means it's the perfect time to listen to it
>>
>>71533781
I listened to in a dark room, and i even got scared of my own shadow.
>>
We love you all.
>>
A God with horns a God with hooves
>>
>>71533760
I remember the first time I listened to this. I was writing a paper on Italian Fascism and it was 2 AM and I was in my family's house alone in rural Ontario. Scared the fuck out of me.
>>
>>71533796

Yeah. I can't even finish the album, it's too scary. It makes me paranoid and scared. It also gave me nightmares once.
>>
>>71533760
yeah geogaddi is an experience, also never fall asleep while listening to it lmao. Woke up when "opening the mouth" started and i thought there was spoopy ghosts surrounding me.
>>
What the fuck is this meme. This album is not scary, you fucking plebs.
>>
>>71533760
BOC best album, wishing for an album like this again soon

That's what I'm listening to right now, just came on.
Weird.
>>
>>71533876
I used to fall asleep every night to a boards of canada album. I think it messed me up
>>
>>71533899

It's a not meme, dude. Have you not listened to it? It's terrifying. Like creepy as fuck, sounds like some weird cult-satan worshipper shit or some weird mindfuck uncanny valley movie shit. It's odd and I can't listen to it. Especially on any substance or alone at night.
>>
>>71533917
the best BoC album to fall asleep to is The Campfire Headphase, so fucking relaxing.
>>
Fuck this album. It's too intense and creepy, I hate it. Listened to it once on shrooms cause I wanted to see if it was too much and it terrified me so much I had to shut it off after about 5 minutes and I was shaking and had a panic attack.
>>
>>71533899
I don't think you understand what we mean by "scary." It's the nuance of it.
>>
>>71533935
yea I agree
>>
>>71533899
i find it relaxing but when "You Could Feel The Sky" comes on i usually turn the volume low. thats like the only creepy song on the album.
>>
>>71533920
Yeah I've listened to it a shitload. It's chill as fuck like every other boc album. Maybe a little more intense at times and a lot more cryptic but not actually scary.
>>
>>71533964
>chill as fuck

No. Maybe a few songs are a bit less intense than others but it's still horrifying
>>
>>71533859
>it's too scary
>It makes me paranoid and scared.
Yeah, it has a pretty strong effect, i got really scared when i saw the cover and noticed shapes.
>>71533876
>never fall asleep while listening to it lmao.
kek, almost fell asleep during it.
>>
>>71533964
Geogaddi feels me to like something very warm and bright and translucent yet sad. Like the world's most depressing summer vacation.
>>
the only BOC album I refuse to listen to all the way through. My friend put it on once and after "The Devil Is in the Details" came on i told him to stop playing it. its too dark for me and gives me anxiety. some weirdos like it but whatever, i cant stand it.
>>
>>71533982
>horrifying

No. Maybe a few songs are a bit more unsettling than others but it's still chill as fuck
>>
i haven't listened to geogaddi in a looooong time
suppose it's time to do it
>>
>>71534008

stop trying so hard to sound cool, faggot. we all know the album is scary as fuck unless you're a psychopath with no emotions or deaf
>>
>>71533961
I ruined that track for myself when I read a YouTube comment saying that the main beat in that song sounds like someone farting

>>
>>71533944
I just listened to it right now
it was chill but i also had to close it at around 5 minutes b/c it was getting creepy
>>
>>71533760
Wow interesting. Halfway through this album right now, revisiting it.

O V E R R A T E D !

This album sucks seriously. It's about the same length as first, but feels 10x longer because nothing is memorable. So many short filler tracks that flat out suck. People say its "darker" I don't know about that, it's just weaker.

The first record is a masterpiece. This is really just rehashing the same stuff but way worse.

I only heard the Campfire album once and it was much better than this.
>>
>>71534037
dude same lmao
>>
>>71534039
/Spooky/
>>
>>71534021
i'm not trying to be cool you idiot

it might be scary as fuck for only the people who are new to music

those more unsettling songs are more annoying than scary, especially the first half of You Could Feel The Sky
>>
>>71534039

This is true. It's a split of chill, cool songs and some weird, creepy (maybe even scary) songs. I like it though, it's their most interesting and experimental besides MHTRTC in my opinion. Also someone made a music video for Julie & Candy and it's really creepy but it's interesting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vuG39sZxMp8
>>
>>71534046
>wow so weird xD
>>
>>71533760
Am I plen for only liking the song with the moaning and gyroscope
>>
>see all these /mu/ threads about this album
>"it's so scary! It's the scariest album ever!" Ihate it!"
>Listen to it in the car
>Hot, sunny day
>"Nothing scary. just a bunch of pussies on the internet I guess"
>Later that night
>Wake up with the album running through my head
>Heart pounding
>Feel weird, have to move around to feel normal
>Check clock
>3:00 AM
>Cover my head in my blanket
>Try to go to sleep
>Can't sleep
>Remember fears I used to have as a young child
>I keep looking over my shoulder now as I type this
If you've never listened to this album, don't do it. It's demonic.
>>
>>71534039
Add Corsair and Ready Let's Go to spooky
>>71534090
You have a penchant for spooky
>>
>>71534090

Not at all. My favorites are easily: 1969, Dawn Chorus, Beware The Friendly Stranger, Julie and Candy, and Alpha and Omega.
>>
>>71534090
>song with the moaning

Dawn Chorus? That's the best song
>>
>>71534098
"a god with hooves, a god with horns"
>>
Yeah it's no meme, this shit straight up made me afraid to sleep while I was really baked once. It's kinda neat though and I like 2 songs but the rest is creepy as shit.
>>
>>71534118
>>71533808
If you slow that sample down you can hear church bells, fire crackling and a woman screaming
>>
>>71534138
yeah its fucking awesome, i love the little tidbits they hide in the music.
>>
can someone tell me exactly why this album is spooky or scary or whatever
it's more nostalgic in an abstract way than spooky
>>
>>71534162

hidden satan/cult backmasked shit, creepy sounds/voices, old horror movie samples, moaning

About more than half of it is pretty creepy, depends on the person though some won't mind it as much as others. Anxiety plays a role I'd say.
>>
>>71534162
There's constant lying undercurrent of something really ominous throughout the album, it's like a certain sound, like those droning notes in the beginning of Sunshine Recorder. It drains the feeling of nostalgia too and it makes hollow on purpose creating a strangely pastoral and plastic feel.
>>
Yo what are your guys thoughts on In A Beautiful Place Out in the Country?
The best release next to Geogaddi imo
>>
>>71534196
Zoetrope is a beautiful song. I really love ABPOITC.
>>
Easily their second best, some might even like it more than Music Has The Right To Children. Depends on what sound of theirs you enjoy though. I personally would rank 'em like this:

Music has The Right To Children > Geogaddi > Campfire Headphase > Tomorrow's Harvest
>>
album is utter trite. the first and 3rd are lightyears better. their new one has grown on me and on first listen i liked it better than boring shit geogaddi.
>>
I love 1969, so chill and trippy. Easily the best track besides Dawn Chorus. (Which always reminded me of a porno)
>>
>>71534225

I love this video of Dawn chorus someone made: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0LZMzDSjz4s
>>
>>71534182
>hidden satan/cult backmasked shit, creepy sounds/voices, old horror movie samples, moaning

maybe i'm just fucked up but i don't think these are too scary, dark sure, but they're more interesting in the context of the music than they are scary
>>
>>71534248
stop trying to look cool, nobody here can see your leather jacket and sunglasses
>>
>listen to Tomorrow's Harvest.
>It's fucking shit.

>>
>>71534259

>>
>>71534248

>>
>>71534282

It is though, it terrified me when I listened to it and scared the shit out of my friends

>>71534295

there's not really anything scary about it lol what the hell guys. maybe I can see anxiety but the anxiety doesn't come from the sounds used, it's more from the fact that some tracks meander so long and I'm anxious for it to end because I just want to get this album over with

Dawn Chorus is just too beautiful, those slightly out of tune synth strings and shit fffuuuuu

Kind of negates any spookiness the res of the album suggests
>>
>>71534401
its like breathing in some fresh air.
>>
Man reading this thread and the other Geogaddi thread that's up right now it making me realize how different my perspective is.

The thought of this album being creepy or scary never even crossed my mind. I'm not trying to be a tough guy or anything, I just never ever interpreted the album to be like that at all.
>>
RDJ Album is spooky. This is just homework music.
>>
From One Source All Things Depend should've been the last track on all the editions of the album t b h, I know it wouldn't cater towards the 66:06 gimmick but it nicely ties the album together
>>
>>71534467

Bullshit. And if youre not trolling...how? I can maybe see it for most of the beginning but towards the end its so spooky.
>>
>>71534498
I'm so confused as to how you can think I'm trolling. I'm someone who is easily spooked, even by stupid Youtube videos.

What tracks do you find scary?
>>
>>71534467
i do enjoy seeing everyone's perspectives on this album. Half of us think its scary and disturbing the second thinks its chill and relaxing. makes for a good conversation.
>>
>>71534520

Tracks 10-19
>>
>>71534467
I fall asleep to my BoC playlist, including Geogaddi. I share your sentiment, I've never really been unnerved or afraid, just very relaxed/calm.
>>
Is this a meme? Was not unsettled 1 bit listening to this album, it just sounded like your standard IDM affair.
>>
People who don't find the album scary or unsettling probably had a very good and sheltered upbringing with minimal trauma.

Listening to the album reminds me of the mystery and sense of unease the world had while you were a young child. Exploring the neighborhood, exploring the woods, staying out past dusk. You really didn't know what you could've gotten yourself into or maybe even what people you could've crossed paths with.
>>
>>71534576

Go listen again, specifically to the second half. Anyone who can't see unsettling and creepy it is clearly has not listened to it much.
>>
I don't understand the spooks. Are you the same people who have existential crisis from looking at the stars or playing space engine, as opposed to being enveloped in awe? Or is a dissonance and ambiguity that uncomfortable an experience? pls explain
>>
>>71534046
> calls scared people liberal
> conservatives literally terrified of everything
>>
>>71534553
Yeah I just don't see what you're saying. I was expecting you to say You Could Feel the Sky, since that's the only track I can even see people interpreting as creepy, even though I don't really see it that way.

Shit like Throbbing Gristle is a little unnerving to me, but not Boards of Canada. Like I said I never even interpreted them like that.
>>
>>71534595

Well said anon. Totally agree.
>>
>>71534603

If you dont find Devil In The Details, Julie and Candy and A is to B as B is to C or Beware the friendly Stranger creepy you may be a psycho
>>
>>71534631
Julie and Candy? Are you fucking serious? That track is beautiful
>>
>>71534638
its the story behind the song that gives it an eerie vibe

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Candace_Newmaker
>>
>>71534603

It's not handled in a heavy-handed way. It's not outright spooky like Excavation for example. Geogaddi creeps up on you with its devilish warmth and catches you off guard and all of the sudden you have your childhood memories flooding back in a twisted and sinister way.
>>
This is the kind of shit that scares me:

Now you're reaching.
>>
>>71534654

>>
>>71534650

And the horror sample and the video. Terrifying.
>>
>>71534665
sorry anon i'm not.
>>
Am I the only one who gets some far reaching existential vibes from the album? It kind of makes me think of the entirety of world history, some songs are set in the ancient past while others in the far future. The Beach at Redpoint gives me cyperpunk vibes.
>>
I listen to it on acid once

Hard to describe, sound was surrounding me sometimes right behind my head, other times I felt like I was on a giant circus wheel

After a while I felt like I was regressing into my childhood and I started to experience everything negative I ever experienced in my life, all at once but 100 times more intense

After it was over I had to go to a friends house for like 3 days, everything was looping in my mind and I couldn't stop it

I gave it to a friend, never listened to it again

It fucks with your mind, I started freaking when the sample of the woman that says "what's in that stuff" it's buried deep underneath

I'm glad I'm not the only one who finds it disturbing
>>
>>71534796

I'm planning to listen to the album for the first time on psychedelics alone in the woods. Good idea or no?
>>

try listening from the beginning
i was vibing for the first few minutes
but i personally found it eery and too intense to continue listening at around 4:40

this amazon review of the album captures my sentiment perfectly:

"A person can't listen to a BOC disc without feeling that there is something baleful in their music. These guys are weirdos (from the interviews they've done), which doesn't take anything away from what they may be trying to accomplish (make good music). I believe they are trying to do something more than just make good music. They are working for the side that I'm not on, so it would be deleterious to my soul to listen to the influential grooves they lay down. The evil is blatant."
>>
>>71535107

Although I'm only 12 mins into the album I don't feel any sense of fear or anything. I'm also currently on an acid trip (come down is more appropriate for this setting) I really like this though. It's relaxing in a way, but also makes me want to experiment with ambient noise and layer them.

t b h I think geogaddi is a very dark and interesting album, that definitely does get uncomfortable at times, but I've never been outright scared or terrified by it. However, I do understand why people get scared by it, and that's because it's a very subtle album. Most other "scary" albums that people reference are just beating you over the head with spooky shit, and ultimately come off as either trying too hard, or just corny. But with Geogaddi tho, you can listen to this entire album (except maybe you could feel the sky) in one sitting while doing something else (I.E. background music), and not really get any creepy vibes from it. It's when you pay deeper attention to the details of the album (devil in the details as a phrase works especially well for this album) that it starts to show its true colors. I've never been terribly scared by it, but I absolutely understand why people do.
>>
Is this a new meme? I listened to this album since forever and i've never felt scared, just a bit sad and nostalgic, wtf seriously
>>
>>71538454
I think, as with many things on /mu/ and 4chan in general, it started as a meme and many people took it on as their personal truth. Now we've got a bunch of people who have convinced themselves it is HORRIFYING stressful. To each their own, I guess. I listen to this album regularly to chill out and absorb all the amazing sounds they obviously worked so hard on.

I can definitely understand why it's seen as scary but it hasn't really spooked me yet. I'm waiting for it to sneak up on me :-) The closest to being scared by it was one time sitting at my desk and I think the music raised my heart rate because all of a sudden I was really tuned in to the beats and they seemed faster than normal, and everything I was doing seemed faster too. It was pretty weird, I became like extra aware of myself.

I don't find this album entirely creepy and my entire childhood consisted of exploring the countryside in the middle of nowhere. I've always gotten more desolate/depressing vibes from it.

This picture right here has a Geogaddi vibe.
It has a daylight backdrop but it's kind of lifeless and there's this big ominous feeling right in the middle of the picture, the feeling of impending doom.
It has all the things that make Geogaddi what it is, daylight, ominous feelings, unsettling feelings.

This. A lot of BoCs work has a feeling of desolation, loneliness, emptiness. Geogaddi is also really cryptic. Seems to be a theme they focus on with a lot of their albums.

>Not realizing that most people are lame

Geogaddi is top notch, and if you unironically get spooped by it you might as well be a 12 year old faggot.

The story behind this photo is fucking terrifying

Geogaddi will be considered one of the greatest albums of all time in 10-20 years. It was way, way ahead of its time. The hauntological elements are unparalleled.

i've just listened to it, it's not scary, you're a bunch of faggots
>>
>>71533998
Yes. The haunted elements in it aren't scary as they are nostalgic. It's like a ghost reminiscing about life.
>>

I truly think that people who don't consider Geogaddi unsettling, sinister or even scary are plebs of the highest order. They're the same kind of people who don't get David Lynch movies.
>>
>>71543882
i mean i like it, but i don't find any music to be scary, like those faggots who are scared of revolution 9, it's just musique concrete

btw

>consider a person to be a pleb for just one album
i think you're the pleb
>>
>>71543395
what's the story?
>>
>>71544156
i think that the guy who took the photo in the moment of taking it he said to his victims (prostitutes) that he would kill them

I remember when it clicked for me the first time, glad you're experiencing that too.

a quick search on google reveals that it's a 14 year old being kidnapped by an old man, a serial killer and a rapist. he had her dress up and pose for the picture before doing his thing.

can't confirm it though, but it's on wikipedia at least. sounds fucked up so i hope it's not but you never know with fucked up serial killers.

Pretty sure it's true. Really mortifying and unsettling picture man. Kinda like this one where an assassin pops up behind a dudes family while he's taking their picture, in order to kill him and he's photographing his own assassin.
>>
>>71543882
I don't think anyone would disagree that it is unsettling. I think the debate is whether or not it is "scary".
>>
Guys here's the thing

The ultimate way to experience Geogaddi is while you're driving through rural Maharashtra in India

There's just long stretches of fucking flat plains and mountains surrounded by forests that you just know are ancient as fuck and had all sorts of crazy mystical religious significance to prehistoric tribal people, but then punctuated by these little towns built up on the sides of the highway. They're really shabby and crappy, lots of old reused billboards for Airtel and these fuckin gaudy ass signs for restaurants and shops. Cows and dogs everywhere, some monkeys maybe. Goats on the street. It looks super post-apocalyptic, like someone tried to build a town with scraps from a hypercapitalist city that got destroyed or abandoned.
>>
This is not a scary record and I won't let you creepypasta faggot underage redditors try to ruin it.

I've been listening to this record since a kid. Best tracks are Beach at Redpoint & Alpha and Omega.
>>
How can people be scared of Geogaddi? It's a little sinister and dark, but whenever I can't sleep I always put this album to help me snooze, its really relaxing for me
