using my autism to make a rock histomap, gathering info. dates dont have to be exact just in the time period that they began to be popular, need genres and bands that are missing
>>
Do the numbers signify the artist's first release in that genre? Or most seminal? Also I assume only one per artist?
>>

the number is the year their most popular album came out according to last.fm scrobbles. I started using this method halfway through so im sure some are wrong. I just need 1 per artist, it's to mark their position on a histomap, something like pic related
>>
>>71532674
i dunno about doing it by most popular album, you'll get some misleading results like pink floyd 79 and arctic monkeys 2013

maybe their first successful album?
>>
>>71532725

I honestly should have done that since the beginning, Ill redo some of them.
>>
>>71532547
I don't have the energy to correct you but your emo section is unbearably wrong. First of all, it should start in the 90s (technically the late 80s), not the 00s
>>
>>71532674
gotcha
idk how you want to section it off since all three genres blend together but definitely add dream pop/noise pop/shoegaze (I'll just give you artist names and you can figure it out from there)
>Cocteau Twins
>AR Kane
>Galaxie 500
>The Jesus & Mary Chain
>My Bloody Valentine
>Ride
>Slowdive
>Mercury Rev
>Lush
>Beach House

Krautrock
>Can
>Faust
>Neu!
>Kraftwerk
>Amon Duul II
>Embryo
>Popul Vuh
>Cluster
>Stereolab (I guess)

/punk/here
Dead Kennedys, Black Flag, Minor Threat, Descendents, Operation Ivy, all very important in the 80s. Black Flag. also for 90s/00s, I'll jump in before anyone else and say blink, Green Day and the Offspring DO have their place for reviving mainstream interest the genre, but I'd remove Sum and include NOFX and probably Sublime.
>>

Waits should really be in, don't know where to put him though since he started with upbeat jazzy kinda stuff on piano.

And The Small Faces, Pysch rock 65.
>>
Why is Cream and Jefferson Airplane under Blues Rock? those are, if anything, Psychedelic and definitely not Blues

>>71535437
Why aren't they listed chronologically? Almost every single genre has shit all over, can't be that hard to just make text layers for each genre and add things where they should be
>>
>>71535599
Cap'n Jazz
American Football
Sunny Day Real Estate
The Promise Ring
Mineral
The Get Up Kids
Texas is the Reason
Braid
Jawbreaker

and then there's screamo too
>>
if you're trying to make a comprehensive history of rock music, you're vastly overrepresenting metal, while hugely underrepresenting significant branches of rock (most notably indie- and punk-based music)

where are massive bands like pixies, sonic youth, or the velvet underground? there's no prog on your chart, or post-punk really. hardcore punk should probably be its own thing too maybe.

also you have a whole bunch of errors. for example, the strokes et al. aren't garage rock, they're garage rock revival bands. garage rock happened in the 60s.

your formatting is pretty horrific too desu but i'm hoping this is just a brainstorm type thing.
>>
>>71535687

>>71535687

>>
>>71535804
>what do we call the used and friends
Pop-Punk normally get's thrown around with them, but even that is a little iffy. Honestly I think people should come up with a name for it, real Screamo is now often called Skramz because of confusion between bands like Pg.99 and Black Veil Brides. It's really wierd.

Genres still need adding: Screamo ; prog

Figure out difference between Emo and Post-Punk ; Separate Hardcore Punk from Punk

I picked velvet underground because they were recording something new to do with psychedelic music. What hendrix was doing had been done slightly before. I say the velvets were 'recording something new' because they had been beaten by people like parson sound

you're still an idiot, when you're putting together a fucking timeline of music do you really go for something underground or do you go for a significant event?

just because VU are THE hip band and were mixing the abstract with the vulgar, doesnt mean they were either popular or the predominant sound

they're not a typical '67' band and it's pretty fucking obvious too, you'd get better milage out of joni fucking mitchell

wow dude thats the first time i've heard that before? also personal attacks have no value here on an anonymous imageboard and you should know that mr. anon

Either way, its not like i disagree totally with the idea of VU its just that they're not worth dismissing an entire social and cultural movement for.
There are plenty of summer of love bands that were just as significant, if anything it's the format of the timeline that's flawed if it cant accept both as parts of a 1967 section
