I'm making a playlist and I'm looking for some nice jazz albums. I'm not too familiar with the genre but I really like Scenery.

>Bitches Brew - Miles Davis
>The Shape of Jazz to Come - Ornette Coleman
>A Love Supreme - John Coltrane

Those are some of my favorites but are extremely entry level and coming from someone who doesn't typically listen to jazz. The /mu/core chart has some other good ones.

And if you're counting jazz fusion beyond Miles Davis,
>Hot Rats - Frank Zappa
>Anything by Pat Metheny Group

summoning jazzthreadguy: thank you
>>
>>71506047
If you're redoing it, please for the love of god get rid of the ODJB. Including that garbage isn't just dumb, it's insulting.

I've redone a few guides on different boards and found that not having creative input (ie changing the guide) is the way to go if you want to avoid toxicity

Id rather just modify texts so they fit in better in the design, but that's it

Thanks for the input tho, appreciated
>>
>>71506825
well that's a system of a down record so im not sure it belongs in the jazz guide anyways?
>>
>>71506047
I've thought about redoing that chart many times because it's far from perfect, but a chart like that never really will be.
>>
>>71507543

>>

>>

Right on, I just thought I'd mention it but feel free to do your own thing. The whole pre-war section has a lot of flaws, but having ODJB on there is by far the biggest issue.

ODJB has historical relevance as making the first "jazz" recordings (big emphasis on quotes) among other things, but their early stuff is just white musicians performing a scripted imitation of what an actual jazz band would sound like, most notably without any improvisation. On top of that, they were insistent on calling themselves the "Creators of Jazz" even when it was well-known that wasn't the case and took a lot of undue credit.

In short, fuck the ODJB.
