ween became a part of the "jam ban scene" if you will when phish started covering their song roses are free.

I'd suggest really being patient with Ween, I really didn't understand the hype at first but they've grown to become one of my favorite bands, definitely unique.

Phish is great, I'd check out Hoist and Junta if you haven't, but Phish is at their best live. It's pretty easy to find high fidelity recordings of Phish shows on the internet.

There are a ton of jam bands, my favorites other than Phish and the dead are Umphrey's Mcgee and Dopapod. Umphrey's has some really talented musicians.
