Is it true only people who use Discogs to discover music are the ones who have the most interesting and eclectic taste?
>>

Is there a videogame equivalent to this site? Like people listing or wanting to purchase NES/SNES cartridges or old N64 and Playstation original games?
>>
>>71500108
who cares?

Independant music died when conde nast took over p4k, modern music is dead
>>
>>71500282
>p4k
>good
>ever
>>
>using discogs to 'discover' music aka going through the catalog of a label and developing some stupid brand loyalty which has nothing to do with music taste

Nah
>>
>>71500312
Except most decent labels have a style and sound so it's all about discovering tons of great gems similar to what you like.

Some of us can think for ourselves and don't need a dumb "reviewer" to give albums scores first.

only if you're a retard going through warp or labradors catalog and thinking its all the same because it's "electronic" or "twee"

More like Jewogs
Have you seen the prices online? Fucking gougers. Who would ever pay $300 for the Mars Volta?
>>
>>71500354
>I have no clue about any labels except major ones posted here daily
>>
>>71500372
you're deluding yourself if you think the average /mu/ poster knows about anything but major labels bud
>>
>>71500369
Who would even listen to that shite?
>>
>>71500377
And the average /mu/ poster is an underage retard just discovering music through /mu/core, obviously unrelated to what OP is talking about.
>>

wouldn't say the most interesting and eclectic. Personally it's my go-to for discovering new stuff and having the ability to catalog my collection is great.

No one but retards and Turny (same thing) use Discogs exclusively for label digging.
>>
>>71499975
They're better than RYM poseur kiddies who stick to a trendy canon and don't bother exploring anything past that let alone even think critically, that's for sure.
>>
Discog's related artists system seems inferior to RYM/last.fm(when I used it in 2012) but I have had more conversations about music with sellers on there than I have on any other music database site.
>>
>>71500312
There are plenty of other ways to find music on discogs. You could browse a specific performer, a vendor, a label, a user, a genre, a producer, etc. You're simple.

>synthpop

There's VGCollect, but it sucks.
I wish there was one for video games. I fucking love music, but my video game collection is so much larger. I've been collecting longer.
>>
I'd say so because the lack of reviews (ala RYM) means that you aren't necessarily drawn to one album over the over because someone online said it was good, you actually have to look at the cover, the artist, and the label which helps define your taste. Also there is at least some correlation between the price of some records and their uniqueness and quality that serves as a surrogate review in a sense.

Discogs makes a kind of virtual record store in a sense and if you treat it like a regular record store, and don't use your phone to look up album reviews and stuff you can actually develop an eye for finding what you like based on label, names involved, and album cover.

It's called ebay

You say that like its a bad thing, turny has great eclectic taste.
