What order would you put these in?

Current: Volume, Wah, Comp, Rat, Octave, Delay, Reverb, Looper
>>
>>71479272
That's the way I would do it too. Some put the compression after distortion but I like it better before.
>>
Does anyone know how he's making the feedback sound like this at 2:40

trying my hand at mathrocky mixing. too loud or no?
>>
>>71479320
It's a bit heavy on the compression.
What's more pressing is how thin and digital the guitars sound
>>
>>71479313
Hes covering with his hands and singing really close into the vocal mic making it feedback
>>
>>71479419
Probably standing right next to a really loud speaker, too. Just cupping isn't enough for that
>>
>>71479272
I would do something like that for a typical setup, though I would probably put the looper before the delay and reverb, otherwise you're going to have some weird cutout things going on with those effects in your loop.

But I also like straying from the conventional order. I've gotten some really cool sounds putting a reverb in front of a distortion pedal.
>>
what are THEE essential pedals?

>>
>>71479470
I know what you're talking about with the cutoff, but it's not a big problem. I can trigger the loop on and off whenever I want, it doesn't automatically cut the input sound when it hits the start of the loop. In theory I could have a reverb that lasts for 3 loop lengths, and it would sound pretty natural.

looking to get a new solid-state amp

how does /gg/ feel about the laney nexus sls bass amp?

it's 500 watts, under $600 and I love the tone

or is there another good amp like the pf500, rh450 or markbass stuff?
>>
>>71480304
I have the PF500 (with matching 210 cab), and it's pretty good. Gets you a sterile Ampeg tone, until you crank up the gain. It has it's own kind of flavour. If you're shopping used, make sure it's a newer release model. The first few batches are unfixable pieces of shit that shut down if someone even looks at it.

thanks for the heads up. I actually did read that the first batch of amps coming out of the new amp factory in asia or some shit were huge duds.

and those 2x10 cabs are gorgeous. right now I have a 1x15 orange cab it's pretty good but man if I end up getting another cab to stack the orange with, it's going to be that pf210he.

I've play the pf500 at the store. sold little amp, I like it just wondering about that laney since not a lot of places carry them and committing to buying something without trying is hard for me. seen videos though and I love me that vintage english heavy mid tone like those early hiwatts. weird how I always end up cutting my mids in my eq at practically zero and even then I still enjoy that british tone.
>>
>>71479586
For me it's the NS-2 and TS9
>>
>>71480532
No problem. That 1x15 orange has gotta be heavy, tone-wise.

The pf210he is a life saver for small gigs; the inside is hollowed out and has a loop of velcro to hold cables in.

A suggestion for the mids would be getting something like a Sansamp VT Bass amp (not the pedal, they make a rackmount amp). It can get that grindy tone easily. And switch to tapewound or flatwound strings to compensate for the lack of a low end.
>>
>>71480566
good suggestion. but just the rack mount? I'm so bad with racks don't know too much about them I get their the preamp of a regular amp but I mean I'm horrible in setting those things up in a proper rig, so would I run with a 500 watt or they need a bigger power amp?

shit forgot they had a 500w amp

I'd say these two songs sound pretty different in terms of vocals:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=433S3tuuB94

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0s2dg1fFTo
>>
>>71479272
I'd put the volume last to be able to cut potential noise from the pedals (if you want lower input for the effects, use the volume pot on the guitar). Using the wah after the distortion or octaver could also be interesting. Put the looper before the reverb.

Stop whining.
>>71484968
Have you never played through an amp? It's just a normal preamp, treble can either get you a nice muted sound or you can boost it to get more attack/zing/clack.
Cut bass if it is too boomy, boost slightly if you sound too thin (if you only use a bridge pickup for example).
Mids are the big deal, this will shape your sound a lot on bass. Low mids give you that nice growl and fundamental tone, high mids can give you or cut away that nasal sound. Also consider your hand position while playing, this also shapes your tone a lot, as do pickups depending on your bass.

Probably by practicing really slow to a click or drum track and minimizing the distance from the fingers to the strings as much as possible and cutting out wasted motions and doing that until it's ingrained in your muscle memory and then gradually increasing the speed.

>Some researchers believe it takes between 1000 and 30,000 repetitions of an activity for it to become second nature to you. When building muscle memory, commit to it for the long haul. Your ability as a player will grow in leaps and bounds for it.

How do I get good at bass? I've had a bass for a while, and to be honest I just have no idea what sounds good when playing with my two friends, a guitarist and a drummer. I don't know if I should attempt to match the notes of my guitar friend, or simply keep in time with the drummer; I don't know if it sounds good or not. They've both got years and years of experience on me, so I know it's silly to expect to be as good as them. The guitarist friend can slide up and down, wring out solos like crazy and I'm left fumbling.

Help.

A lot of people will tell you to lock with the drummer but how you do that is what I think is important, and it changes with the genre.
For solos you want to keep a solid bassline the guitarist can easily come back to. Even if he's experienced he'll appreciate it.
>>
>>71487784
>but how you do that is what I think is important
Can you elaborate? Or is it simply related to the different genres point you mention next?

It pretty much boils down to this. Check out different styles and how the bassline relates to the drum and metronome, an easy way to spot the difference is to compare Jazz, Funk, Blues and maybe Punk or Metal.
Also check out Adam Neely on youtube, he's got plenty of useful bass lessons.

It's the same way that you're not allowed to say how bad a movie was because you're not a director, or how bad a meal was because you're not a chef.

Let me know when Ernie Ball does a string commercial on YouTube with you, /gg/.

Maybe then I'll be able to take your "opinions" seriously.

>>71490611
How important are the really high notes to you? I don't have an exceptional amount of difficulty reaching the high frets on LPs, though it is a bit harder. I do prefer having 24 frets however, but the LP tone is worth it.

So basically decide how important the high notes are to you and decide what guitar has the tone you want.
>>
>>71490654
The strat is what you buy when you grow up in a dad-rock and blues worshipping bubble and fall for advertising campaigns.

There are literally dozens of better options for strat style from US makers like Carvin or even a Jap made Ibanez
>>
>>71490677

A Squier Strat was literally my first guitar, I gave it to a friend about 10 years ago and I miss the fuck out of it for sentimental reasons.

you're right, fender just can't compete anymore
>>
>>71490775
That's a bummer anon. Squier Strat was my first as well. I let my brothers band borrow it for a short tour and they fucking ruined it but I still keep it up for decoration in my apartment. I was thinking about getting it fixed up but I think I'm just going to save up for an actual Fender.

Never give away your first guitar, no matter how shit it is.
>>
>talking to yourself cuz you got btfo

I was planning to buy a $900 Fender Strat and ended up going with a $400 Ibanez RG. No regrets at all.

Pretty sure they abused the fuck out of the trem. Also the neck is bent and the action is insanely high.

I could probably fix most of the issues with a truss rod adjustment but they lost the whammy bar and the replacement I bought wouldn't stay in it.
>>
>>71490913
they probably broke the truss if it's visibly bent backwards.
>>
>>71490913

That sucks, I hope they at least paid for a replacement.
