Yeah. It's pretty uneven, but there's some good stuff on it. Probably their most inconsistent post Revolver album. If they had cut out all the bullshit and weak tracks, shortened it from a double to a single album, it would have been their their greatest work. Instead, we got the bloated mess that inspired Charlie Manson and his family to murder movie stars.
>>
>>71474909
Paul needed John more than John needed Paul at this point. He did do some good solo work, but Lennon's Beatle stuff is mostly better than Paul's Beatle stuff.
>>
What's not to get? I suppose you have to understand the state of the Beatles.

>>71474687
Is important.
They also had just come back from India where most of these and many other unreleased songs were penned, but came back in 2s, with George and John staying there the longest. So the rift between the lads was already starting.

They were beginning to be tired of eachother's company, and more importantly, tired of being Beatles. The White Album is really the beginning of the end. Very few songs from the White Album, and for much afterword were recorded with all 4 Beatles. Sometimes it was 2, sometimes 3, someones totally solo.

And so the White Album is unique in their discography because its the one where other members had no veto power if they didn't like it a song. All the Beatles had to OK something before. But now, fuck you George, this is my song and I don't like you right now. To hell with Paul and his granny music, I only need my Yoko to write. That sort of thing. So it's weird as a result. But their most creative and the one I always come back to the most.

She's not a girl who misses much...
>>
>>71474792
Yes. I own both versions Some of the songs on the stereo version are better (Don't Pass Me By at correct speed While My Guitar Gently Weeps is a better quality recording in stereo and Helter Skelter is complete) There are songs on the mono version I thought were more interesting. (Louder airplane sounds on Back in The U.S.S.R. faster segue into Dear Prudence and the difference in the recordings of the animal sounds on Piggies and Blackbird to name just a few differences between the two versions)

Bad advice

The 2009 remasters are the best sources of either mix. Go there.

It's true. Paul's songs on the White Album are dreck.

Paul had surpassed John as a songwriter by 66. It's immaterial anyway, by 68 George was better than both.

Paul was best Beatle from Help! onwards through the rest of their careers. The proof is recorded with Ram and Band on the Run which are both better than any Beatles album.
>>
>>71475548
>Ram and Band on the Run
Adore those albums and Paul's my favorite musician ever, but those are not better than "any Beatles album" don't be stupid.

The only solo album that can make that case for is All Things Must Pass. That would be a top3 Beatles album imo.
>>
>>71475502
While that may be debatable and I disagree, the fact remains that John's White album material was far superior. Sgt Pepper's was more evenly matched.

You are wrong and have bought into the illusion of progress, 2009s are needlessly dark and murky

Go get them on rutracker and thank me later
>>
>>71475614
>You are wrong and have bought into the illusion of progress
It's literally quantifiable and measurable. mastering technology has improved over the last decade, and they are able to create a more accurate capture of the master tapes now.
>2009s are needlessly dark and murky
Or rather, the older masters were needlessly bright and brittle.
>rutracker
lol There's your problem
>>

>The proof is recorded with Ram and Band on the Run
But not McCartney and Wildlife?

No because they are both awful and shows he needed John.

No that is not the best master. As I said, the 2009s are a better capture of the masters. Supposedly the *very* best is the 2014 mono vinyl boxset, which are uncompressed direct transfers of the mastertapes.

McCartney, his first solo album. Maybe you can tell me what's excellent about "Oo You"

If you don't know why something is, it probably wasn't to begin with.

Music is subjective you complete moron. I like it because it sounds good, you don't like it because it sounds bad. No one is convincing anyone of anything.

The worst Wings album is still better than the worst Beatles album. Paul was consistently great up until after 1980. Almost like he knew John wouldn't be listening to his records anymore.

Alright kiddo this is really your final (you).

One day you'll grow up and understand, it doesn't matter why someone likes things. It's like love. You might love things about a person, but that doesn't really matter. You just love them.

Music, and all art, is the same. You like things because you like things. In describing something you'll mention things like about it, but that really doesn't matter. People like what they like, and don't like what they don't like. If it sounds stupid and simple it's because it is and people are emotional creatures.

I wish a lot of the "music objectivists" on this board would understand it. Have you ever noticed that in all these fucking years and posts, you've never really convinced anyone or been convinced about anything? All you can do is agree with the people who like it and disagree with the people that don't. That's all art is.

You'll get over this high and mighty music critique phase and understand how futile it all was. I'll just be over here listening to what I like and I really don't care what you're listening to or why.
