I don't think anybody is like, demanding a new NMH record. I think most people would be okay if their legacy included that ITAOTS was their last full length release.

However, HL3 is just shitty, because it leaves a brilliant game with a brilliant storyline on a massive cliffhanger, and the idea that they're nonchalant about finishing it is just fucking shitty. That being said

I don't think there is a solid equivalent. I think that it's hard to find conclusive storylines within bands, and thusly it's impossible to justify the HL3 quality hype for an album/band. I think it would have to be for hypotheticals.
