He's just saying that the album was more about Bowie's image than his actual music (very much the case with most of Bowie's albums) and it isn't very good on a musical level.

Eh, don't exactly agree. It was mainly a musical farewell to the fans, or a parting gift. Maybe he was expecting some sort of image after his death, but that's not the impression that I get with Blackstar.

That's fine if he didn't like the music on the record, but he's purposely being a giant asshole by saying, "most amateurs would be ashamed to release it", when he was on the verge of dying from cancer, and that's all he could do.
