I don't think you know what diatonic melodies mean... Without note to chord relation there wouldn't be 'music'.
Even if you do use passing notes, augmented notes or anything that isn't directly related to the root it can still work.
If anything sub-genres of metal like slam don't really have any melodies, since they sort of follow some rhythmical structure over melodic structure, but there's a myriad of metal bands that use proper structuring and chord representation through scales and arpeggios to fill their songs with meaningful musical lines..

The "darkness"/"evilness"/brutalily" that defines metal comes from playing notes outside the prevailing key.
If you have a heavy rock band stick to only the notes in a major or minor key, then all you have is post-grunge.

Of course it's better because I say so. You guys are obviously just manchildren stuck in the past, listening to a genre that has been so excessively fleshed out and elaborated upon that no one has fun playing the music anymore.
Metal bands are redundant and boring and objectively inferior to other good bands, like GYBE.
>>71357631
>That's not metal.
Who are you to make these boundaries? It seems like you're illogically moving goalposts so the argument can fit to whatever you like it to be. Ulver's second album is dark folk which is metal based folk music. Bard's Song entails a riff based harmonic progression throughout, thus why everything's so layered from all the guitars and the chorus vocals to give that metal feel.
>There isn't a single numetal band on Encyclopedia Metallum.
That's because numetal isn't metal. It's not a genre centered around progression of different riffs. Doesn't make the genre automatically bad or shat on for that reason, but just not metal.
>But just about every riff is in a different key, so a single song will have chromaticism if looked at in total.

Nope, I would rather listen to minimalist classical that's a lot more intellectually rewarding within that particular structure/form of doing music.
>Less is more when it comes to music
Godspeed has an arrangement of 13 musicians in a rock band. They also have long as shit songs with constant repetition with changes not happening at a rate to justify said length. I definitely agree that less is more considering metal progresses far more in a track within 4 minutes than Godspeed does in a 16 minute long track with far more ideas introduced despite a smaller arrangement. You obviously don't.

Classical music isn't even on the same level as GYBE's stuff. Beethoven should be taking notes from these guys. All classical music should be banned because of pretentious shits like you.
And the condensed and excessive nature of metal is exactly why it sucks. Metal cucks can't focus on a single developing musical concept for more than 4 minutes at a time and if the song progresses too slow it makes them wrinkle their unibrows from all the cognitive dissonance they experience from trying to masticate such musical ideas.

But Chuck did give the best head in metal. David Vincent had his Azagthoth, and everyone in Vader had Doc, but no one made a pink cock erect like Chuck. True, as the AIDS infested his throat it made it hard for him to deep throat, but even as he lay there rotting, stinking of AZT and covered with Kaposi's sarcoma, Chuck would signal with two fingers when a willing donor came into the room. All I can offer in addition to that is the fact that no sex will ever compare to colostomy hole love, especially when the hole is fresh and supple after a well-greased movement.
We will never forget you, Chuck. Every time I hear your name my prostate aches, both for your tender heart-shaped ass and that incredibly thin, probing member we shared many times. It is heartbreaking how many things bring Chuck to mind. The sound of heavy metal. The flavor of Taco Bell food on the road. The scent of semen. The world lost not only a great musician, but a great lover, when Chuck died.
To say Chuck was gay is incorrect. He wasn't gay, he was just open-minded, and he sought anal sex from men, boys, girls and animals alike. Anal was not his favorite. His favorite was the blowjob, and he liked to be held afterwards, with someone stroking his hair and saying, "Chuck you are king of the world."
I will never sell the copy of Leprosy (80 grain vinyl) he left me at our last meeting. It is battered now, and reeks faintly of manpoo, and maybe it does have a few suspicious smears, but it is all I have of him. That and the memories. Those gushing, sticky, illicit, clandestine memories... Oh Chuck I miss you more than I can say.

There is nothing edgy about mainstream hip-hop. Edginess is a descriptor applied to cultural behavior's which are largely opposed to mainstream society and convention. I think hop-hop is pretty normalized in the culture of the USA at least, and edgy doesn't just mean "cool". You can't really be suggesting that the musical expressions of working-class black america involving, to an extent, urban gang culture and hip-hop, and it's general co-option by a large proportion of youth today, is any "edgier" than the esoteric, long-haired, blackness and darkness of at least much of Metal, which is still a genre avoided by a majority of youth, at least when compared to hip-hop, right?
