I think it's similar to early Adele, it's less about how good he is and more about people trying to prove they're not shallow becuase hey, look at me, I'm listening to a not-generically-attractive artist. Once you've decided to like particular music, you listen to it more, habituation kicks in, and you end up actually liking it a lot more. Most shit we say we don't like we would probably become at least impartially to if we charitably listened to it five or six times. I mean that's just my theory.
