The only reason I come here is to get recs or find new stuff to hear. If I found another community I'd probably leave.
Spotify and Last.FM are nice, but the recs are always similar to my previous listens, so musical range doesnt change much.
In my short time here I found a bunch of bands and genres I would never expect to like.
Pitt the community being what it is, but I guess thats what you'd expect from 4chan

This place has some pretty shitty threads (grimescucks and DGfags are especially bad), but honestly I like this board. You can shitpost in the /mu/mor threads or the other shitty meme threads, but if you legit want recs, you can find them here. A lot of my taste comes from this site, and surprisingly it's not all /mu/core. Not only that, the generals are really good too ( I frequent /gg/, it's nice there if you ignore the waifufags and the cork sniffers).

People who complain about not enough discussion happening on /mu/ are just whining a whole lot without trying to find or start any """discussion""". I'm not saying this is the best forum, but you're on fucking 4chan, there's not much you can expect. /mu/ is so much better than other boards its size (eg /lit/, /tv/, etc).

If I lost all interest in music

Personally, I don't really come here for recs as much as I used to as I'm pretty adept at finding music to listen to and have heard most of the regular stuff here

But, I also know that have such an interest in exploring music I've never heard and cataloging it mentally makes me a pretentious fuckwad and means I don't talk to people in person about music or they hate me and I hate myself so I come here where I don't feel bad for enjoying music (well, sometimes I do but that's only when I'm reminded of some of the people that post here)

I'm not really sure what your point is here. You certainly missed mine. Liking /chart/ threads has nothing to do with thinking /mu/ is the only valid source for recs.

Chart threads are great though. I like seeing what a single person considers the absolute best 40 or so albums in existence. Sometimes you end up seeing some really neat albums that would otherwise get buried by a voting system with more then just one person.

I'll add topic threads like /dark/ and /shugazi/ to the list of things keeping me here.
