I've had my Classic for 7 years now, dropped it countless times, albeit with a hard case, and never had any HDD failure, which is more than I can say for my laptop 2TB drive which died only 7 months after I bought it

Because it's comfy to use with Rockbox installed. I like the controls, I don't need iTunes, it's sturdy as fuck. Been using it daily for 7 years carrying it in my pocket without any protection (sometimes in the same pocket as my keys) and except for the back there are basically no scratches or anything on it. Dropped several times onto concrete, carried on like a trooper.
