I like early Mastodon but I don't have any delusions about them pushing the boundaries.

Mastodon is a good entry band into metal but once you start listening to heavier stuff they kind of lose their likableness. Eventually metal as a whole (excluding a small amount of it) will too if you aren't a nu-male

This guys correct. I thought Mastodon was the tits until I got into Neurosis. Their first 2 were the best and they made nothing good after #4 IMO.
