When did U2 become the most hated band in America? Even like a decade ago, their output had become pretty bland but they were still popular among a lot of people despite Bono's antics being the target of lots of hate.
Nowadays, every mention of them is negative, they have zero impact on not only the Top 40, but very little on the mainstream rock/alternative rock/AAA spectrum of music. And nobody seems to like them anymore or at least they aren't willing to be open about it. Even in the context of their classic material. They still do well with tour grossing, though the 2009 one was their peak.
Bono.
No question about it.
Bono.
It used to be just Bono that got the hate but then they put their album on everyone's phones and that pissed people off.

When they violated iPhones by putting in their mediocre album without telling or asking.
When was the last time u2 was even relevant? 1986?
They were never good though

Boy through Achtung Baby is all great if you don't count that live album

I never understood how they were and still are critically acclaimed. Their music is some of the most boring schlock I have had shoved down my throat from the mainstream.

The only song I like of theirs is "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me." I love the instrument arrangement.

because they made good albums
>>71310775
Were they ever TRULY critically acclaimed though? By legitimate critics I mean, not Rolling Stone.

What about their post-punk output?
