Try out Bloodthirsty Butchers. They're a Japanese band who kind of stumbled on the Dinosaur Jr. sound almost by mistake.
>released an album called Kocorono in 1997
>Kocorono means 'heart' in Japanese
>it was their breakout album
>frontman dies of a sudden heart attack at 46
always thought that was a bit of a weird coincidence

Sonic Youth
Meat Puppets

All I can think of are the obvious ones. Dinosaur Jr are great though so hopefully someone has better recs.

Not OP but thanks anon, this is great!

You didn't even like In a Jar?
>the best song on the album is a cover
>>71286732
oh yea that one too
i liked three
the rest just seems monotonous
>>71286818
It does have a bit of a dense sound to it. It helps to focus on the individual instruments rather than just listening to the whole album without much focus because then it'll just be a wall of sound. Little Fury Things and In a Jar are a couple of the more obviously melodic ones, but closer listening will bring out those elements in the other songs. Also their later albums might be a better place to get started. Try Bug or Whatever's Coo With Me.
