Been looking for albums like Funeral but all I get is 2000s indie rock. Something with similar themes/instrumentation?

Yes, but it's got a different style with all the orchestral elements, gospel-like choirs and all that vintage aesthetic
Reminds me a lot of the poppier flaming lips stuff like The Soft Bulletin and Yoshimi.
Both albums are replete with lush instrumentation and layered vocals. The lyrical themes are similar as well.
I understand that the overarching sound is fairly different but I feel the parallels are there.

Maybe check out You Forgot it in People by Broken Social Scene. Either that or Lift Yr Skinny Fists by GY!BE (only instrumentals though)

What this guy said, along with mass romantic and twin cinema both by the new pornographers.
