All memes come and go.

>>71270089
>what made it a meme though?

It's hard to sustain a musical genre based on irony, nostalgia and mimicry.
>>
>died
>normalfags discovered it
>died again

mallsoft was pretty cool
>>
>>71269985
i guess you can say...it got...vaporized
>>
>>71269985
as an insider, there's not really any classic vw being produced by the big names anymore. they are all still putting stuff out and there is still a scene but it's moved more toward cyberpunk/futurism and hardvapour. it's also mostly original productions now as opposed to plunderphonics. So I guess it's kind of dead but kind of not; just alive in a much different form now.

It may be dead but It's in a better place than when it was in its heyday quality wise. They hype has died off but we still have very good producers that put out albums every now and then and there are still a handful of extremely solid releases every year.
>>
its still going strong

>>
>>71270300
the scene has also recently begun to embrace more experimentation and increasingly avant-garde styles which is cool
>>
>>71270188
how about it sustaining itself on its other merits as a genre? you people cling to the capitalist meme shit and call it dead while i listen to it because i like the way it sounds. it doesn't have a deep political message to me.

>you people cling to the capitalist meme shit

I don't know what you mean by "capitalist meme shit." Can you provide me with a detailed explanation?
>>
it was integrated into critically acclaimed music and popular music alike, which naturally put off a lot of inventors of the genre, since it wasn't really intended for popularity i guess, not to say it was 'underground'

but that doesn't mean it's dead, i mean you can hear it all over the place and i think it will live on for a very long time on this way, the question is though is it just the sound that will live on or is it actually the thought behind it

>>71270080
agree
>>
The new Blank Banshee sucked, the new Ferraro sucked, the new Vektroid sucked, so we all kind of just gave up on it after that. It's passe.
>>
>>71270478
i mean that's kind of your problem then with these albums, new ferraro was pretty interesting and a lot of people loved it

thing is, that's also a problem with vaporwave right now that the big inventors just keep inventing right now and naturally moving away from the v a p o u r standard palette, but people keep expecting what they know maybe
>>
>>71269985
people who didnt understand it thought they understood it and destroyed it
>>
What the fuck happened to eco virtual
>>
>>71270882
What is it and what did they misunderstand?
>>
>>71271112
The whole idea behind vaporwave
Like every great scene, it became popular and became flooded with normies and women who only liked it at the superficial level. They didn't know the music, they just posted aesthetic meme gifs on tumblr and called yung lean and spooky black, bones, suicideboys etc. memerap shit vaporwave and then it got mixed in with that and it just went downhill
>>
>>71271159
No, I meant what is vaporwave and what did they misunderstand about it. I don't know much about it besides sampling 80s synthpop and aesthetics.

>>
>>71271230
What the hell are you talking about.
>>
>>71271185
It was initially meant to evoke nostalgia for the pop culture of the 80s/90s, but teens who don't remember that culture got their hands on Vaporwave and made it all about the "dank memes" and "post-irony".
>>
>>71271247
Was it meant to have irony or did they just turn it into that?
>>
>>71271230
you sound hot. i'll tickle your nips for a hot fiver babe. hmu
>>
Not enough porn samples.

Lookin' at you, Dave.
>>
>>71271267
There was always like an ironic appreciation of "kitschy" cheesy 80s/90s aesthetics. VHS graphics, bad 3D cgi, obsolete tech, sampling commercials, throwaway pop hits, and National Geographic education video soundtracks, stuff like that. The artists ironically celebrated these things that are seen as old and outdated due to the advancements we have made since then. Plus people like Vektroid and James Ferraro had all sorts of concepts attached to their music commentating on "post-capitalism" and consumerism and shit like that.
>>
>>71271369
I see. Do you think that the genre being more than just musical played a part in its downfall?

It seems like having so many different elements to it made it easy to get distracted and misunderstand it.
>>
>>71271369
it wasn't ironic it was aesthetic. people genuinely thought/think it looked and felt cool you fucking moron.

"Capitalist meme shit" is probably a reference to how people have viewed "the message" vaporwave is trying to send (if there was really a message to begin with). Some music "critics" really insinuate accelerationism as vaporwave's message. For some reason "critics" or as we know them, english majors, really like suggesting metaphors because, like, what does it all mean man, nothing has face value man, things can't just be good, there has to be a message man.
thats probably the meme he's talking about.

Because it was never a genre on its own but a sub-genre of electronic music and to be fair, all sub-genres have their life spans (hell, all genres themselves have their lifespans, those some are more tenacious than others) and sure vaporwaves was a little shorter than 'real life' genres but honestly, not by much.

It's kinda like if in 2001 you asked what the hell happened to boom bap. I'm sure there were still people making it but hip hop itself was far from dead, it had just moved onto another trend.
>>
>>71269985
its normie tier now. jump ship and let them have it and move on to something more innovative
