I've heard all the mars volta albums and at the drive in album. he has like 50 other solo albums, anything noteworthy? I think I'll start with the john frusciante collaboration
He was pretty funny in IT Crowd

or if you liked atdi go for antemasque.
There's lots to love but absolutely Cryptomnesia. It's basically a messed up Volta record with Zach Hill on drums.
If you like the Volta's live jams, check out:
Omar Rodriguez (pic related)
The Apocalypse Inside of an Orange
Please Heat This Eventually (/w Damo Suzuki)
Dōitashimashite
Still need to digest the recent dump of albums from the backlog, but like the rest of his solo stuff it's all over the place, one album might just be solid songs and hooks with production values, the next may be a montage of live jams or a weird analog noise. I suggest just poking around.

John Frusciante is great, I'd recommend you try out Solar Gambling after that
His work with Bosnian Rainbows is pretty good, too, if not restrained
His best solo work was the stuff with Ximena Sariñana. Namely Solar Gambling.
