First two are right, rest all have pretty uneven discographies and can be fudged around depending on how you weight things. So, I more or less agree OP.

Notice how I never said I didn't like his singing. However his singing isn't amazing. You can't sing an octave higher by accident but that doesn't mean you're hitting the right note. I may not know much about music but I have ears.
>>
>>71230503
Just because you have a perfect voice doesn't make you a good singer. People enjoying your music is what makes you a good singer. Art is about imperfection, the little flaws in his voice are what makes it so good.

Thinks music is rigid by genre.

They're grunge. Look at the names you've given their "style". Name 10 other bands in each of those "styles". You can't. Because you're splitting hairs. They're all grunge.

Say what you want about songwriting. I disagree, but you can have your opinion. There was literally no one with Kurt's voice in the early 90s. There was no one (for better or worse) with Axl Rose's voice. A unique, identifiable voice was the calling card for success with early 90s rock. Kurt was absolutely in that discussion.

this. They were objectively the best grunge band. Their (Kurt's) song structures were simple but incredibly effective, his lyrics were abstract but uncompromisingly honest
>i travel through a tube and end up in your infection...cmon that's brilliant
and their sound was dense with raw emotion, the guitars wailed and the drums smashed and it all sounded like one last riot before the apocalypse. Name another fucking grunge band that conjure up that same tidal wave of feeling, or really any band in general

Anybody who puts Pearl Jam and/or STP about Nirvana is shameful

Let's break it down

Alice in Chains is the go-to band for people who want to be contrarian about Nirvana's hype.

"They're better".

Yeah, not really.

Alice in Chains reached greater heights than Nirvana, but Nirvana was consistently great. Even their b-sides are good.

Alice in Chains was made from the ashes of a glam band and it shows. These were guys who saw the new wave of alternative rock coming and changed their tune and started doing heroin and talking about suicide. Before that they were writing songs about pussy and football.

You can hear the traces of it in their music, sometimes in Jerry's leads, or just some heavy-handed and frankly corny songwriting in general.

That isn't to say they were not a great band, because they were, but Nirvana was consistently better.

STP has some cool songs but they don't really strike me as even contending with the others besides Pearl Jam which is a terrible band anyway

Soundgarden were all technical MONSTERS, all very skilled at their respective instruments. However, they often fell into Led Zeppelin/Black Sabbath aping and didn't reach much beyond that. They have a lot of great cuts throughout their albums, but they just don't stack up with Nirvana, and are slightly behind Alice in terms of stellar songs.

Pearl Jam is a fucking joke and anyone who ranks them above the previous needs to get their ears checked.

So it goes Nirvana>>>Alice in Chains=Soungarden>>>>>>>>>>>Shit>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Pearl Jam

I'd switch AiC with SG tough, otherwise I agree. I'll never understand the hate towards Pearl Jam here, the only "arguments" I've seen here are pretty much "Ten is bad", "Eddie is a pussy" or just "Buttrock". Their first three albums are solid, the rest are kind of meh with at least one or two great songs.
>>
>>71233752
They had one grunge album: bleach
Nevermind was just regular rock and in Utero was arguably noise rock at its core, especially the albini mixes
>>

I think at this point it is tough to dispute the fact that Nirvana is objectively not only the best grunge band but the best band for the rock genre of the 90's. Anything to stop hair metal would've been great but kurt brought so much more.

soundgarden were good musicians but their music is just zeppelin and sabbath tropes

>Alice in Chains

Alice in Chains MAYBE. Most of the time Alice in Chains were playing pretend and being edgy because it was the new cool thing to do.

That's where Kurt shines. You can tell he was always a weirdo. His lyrics are also miles better than the rest too. Alice in Chains talk about suicide LITERALLY with no irony. Sooooo edgy.

Tell me how soundgarden or aic is touching the manic screams of a song like negative creep, or hairspray queen, or mexican seafood.
