The musical hipster should be quantified by how needlessly he cultivates his materialist ideology with each of the following accessories:

-Tight and/or mismatched clothes
-Vintage synths, pedals or tape recorders
-An addiction to opiates, weed or alcohol
-Smug yet autistic temperament
-Respects his friends as people but wouldn't ever let them know it and actively sabotages their well being
-Probably can lay a 7/10 art hoe but usually bangs fatties and genuinely enjoys their companionship

Hipsters are just people who hang out with people who can be identified as hipsters, yet all have very negative views of hipsters themselves and thus avoid that classification.

Basically everyone knows they're hipsters because of their style, friend group, etc but they have a problem, at least overtly, identifying as such
