As someone who has listed to this music and tried, really tried, to get into it, I find modern Arabic pop music (80's 90's up to present) to be the most artificial compared to other countries/regions. Every decade seems to have a formula, the result being that each song sounds exactly like the other. Worst offenders are Amr Diab and Mohammed Mounir--no doubt they have their fans, but if you've heard one song you've really heard them all. Even the lyrics. As for Haifa Wehbe, she's good eye candy and not much more. I'm open to be convinced otherwise.

(Mahraganat style of music OTOH is another story altogether, but still kilometers behind other 'rebellious' music of other peoples and cultures. Like the Egyptian "revolution", it was a good try that failed)
