What do you seriously think of the new wave of east coast "emo" (specifically philly)? Pinegrove, Modern Baseball, broken beak...personally I think it's all shit

i agree...it's very confessional which makes it easy to connect with i suppose
but musically it's boring and watered down
good modern emo does exist though

alex g is my favorite musician of all time hands down, pinegrove is incredible and mobo is eh
but dont underestimate the music of alex g, listen to it again with an open mind youll get something haunting from it

If you like Empire! Empire! Then a lot more of CYLS bands will be up your alley. I'd especially recommend The Reptilian, Perfect Future, and Dikembe for stuff pretty close to them.
For more branching out I'd put up Dowsing and Two Knights.
You can also check out the samplers on CYLS bandcamp and go for what interests you in those.
