Anybody have much experience with Gibson dirty fingers pickups? Looking to replace the pickups in my epiphone explorer with something a little hotter.

Is buying an epiphone sg and installing Gibson pick ups in it a better option than buying a Gibson sg?

Do any of you have previous experience with installing expensive pick ups into cheaper guitars? How did it turn out?

I guess it is a big for ibanez, but most guitars can do that, even squier shitplanks
>>
>>71183367
i have a prs se and i put seymour duncans in it. was a good decision, it sounds a lot better now

i believe that pickups are the most important thing when it comes to tone, the guitar is just a piece of wood and the whole debate about tonewood is goofy

I put fender deluxe drive pickups in my $180 squier tele. Difference was literally night and day.
Of course i changed all the wiring, pots and switch too.

Do it.
But on a side note, the disgusting epiphone headstock precludes me from ever buying one for that reason alone.
>>
>>71183367
Some of the new epi pups sound pretty decent, honestly. You can get a new g400, gibson pickups and tuners for under $600. You can get used SG standard for $500 if you look around.

I put good pickups in most cheap guitars i own, the biggest differences in sound are from electronics, and then scale length.

Feel would be the difference, sg standard feels better(but it should) and comes from the factory with a better set up and fret work(and the gibson electronics, obv). G400 feels fine though. I own both, i prefer the sg but both are good guitars. I had to set the g400 after i got it, the sg was perfect for me.

Basically, cheap guitar with upgraded electronics is still a cheap guitar and can have all the pitfalls, but it'll sound good. It can play as good too, just might take more work to get it there.

No offense taken. I believe I read a while back that it has to do with the luck of the draw really. When they split the wood down the middle its really thick and they often end up damaging parts of the wood so getting both sides to be perfect isn't really cost effective.

I get it, no doubt. You need a powerful bandsaw, good sharp blade, and some time and patience. A production environment doesn't have those luxuries, and they can't just toss mildly expensive lumber. And after planing you can lose some real thickness off even 8/4 stock. You have to at least plane and joint a corner to ride the fence. It can be a real hassle. Wont stop me from complaining though because Im an entitled american

Because he hasnt done anything noteworthy or well known since layne died. He used to clown on everyone. I remember hearing Man in the Box the first time when i was really young and it really stuck out for me, he uses a wah better than most people he'd be put in a league with. He's a really solid player, and his background vocals made layne sound so much more powerful.

Any of you fags have any good resources (tabs/video/etc) for learning to make chord licks/riffs?

I mainly play straight classic rock with power chords, scale shapes and barre chords, with various double stops.

I understand all diatonic chords in major and minor.

But my knowledge of chords stops there, I don't know how to improvise with different chord voicings are arpeggios all around the neck like jimmy page or slash can do effortlessly

I guess what I'm asking about is basically similar to instrumental acoustic guitar music, how to "fill in the gaps" when playing chord melodies instead of just moving around basic shapes

16th - 16th- 16th rest - 8th. the song is in 6/8. you probably mess it up because you get distracted by the rhythm. try strumming the 16h notes along very relaxed and loose, while muting all the strings. Tap along with a foot or with your head or whatever you use to the one. like ONE(tap).

Actually im not sure, im bad with rythm but I hear a ONE two three ONE two three ONE two three ONE two three

and on top of that i hear a fast

one - te - ne - te two - te ne te three te ne te

you probably he doesnt change the melody/chords on the one two and three.

Nice song btw, listened to it many times now. Im awake for like 36 hoursish tried to give my best answer.

Use the theory to distinquish the different sounds and feelings you're experiencing while playing the guitar. Jimmy page probably just thinks what kind of sound he wants to play and then he plays the notes or the chord or whatever that fit that sound/ or feeling that is in his head. A chord is just some notes played together that sound in a particular way, the notes you play on top of those chords will make the chord feel different or the notes feel different.

Now feelings are very vague so we assign numbers and letters to it so we can differentiate the different sounds and are able to communicate to eachother how to make a certain sound.

So basically just practice and play. Get a good taste, find things you think work together well musically and learn to play the music you hear in your mind. And then just play, and when you're in doubt you can predict what will sound well or how something will sound by using your theory knowledge.

This is just my opinion tho. And maybe i didn't even communicate my thoughts well. Typing shit in English is harder than I thought.

This or those:

- use a better mic -> maybe your mic is just somalian tier

- use the mic better -> mic placement in relative to the speaker is important

- use a better audio interface -> does it work? Do you even have a mic preamp?

- use the audio interface better -> maybe you forgot to gain it properly?

- buy better cables
- play louder

You can also try to use a DI box or plug the guitar directly in the soundcard and use some kind of digital amp.

so guys, when you're playing guitar and are in a band setting (i.e. have a drummer, bass player, keys, and singer), are you actively keeping time in your head? I'm not asking if you're a "YouTube guitarist", I'm asking if you're a guitar player who maintains a YouTube channel to any degree. My band is covering Feel by Ty Segall as our encore and I've got the first solo, it's all improvised because it's an easy 3 chord jam to use as a filler. the couple times we've played it I've just been stuck soloing between the keys of B and D or on the 7th through 12th fret for you new friends. Is there any sort of techniques I can do that can help me transition to other keys? At home I have the backing track looped (bass and guitar) but whenever I switch keys they sound forced, out of place and inorganic.

Hey guys Chap here. Today we're demoing the new Ibenhad MemeMaster super strat. Let's check out the features it comes with:

-Extra thick poly finish guaranteed to become slippery at the slightest touch
-Ibanez® Wizard III™ neck, flat and smooth, just perfect for the kind of pointless wankery I do
-New super pointy body shape, redesigned to be 20% more uncomfortable and edgy looking
-Super high gain HSH pickups, coming in at 50k, 55k, and 100k, these are too hot for anything but retardedly distorted power chord chugging
-New bridge designed to be a knockoff of the well-known Floyd Roseâ„¢ but slightly worse

Now let's see how it plays. I've got my Triple Rectifierâ„¢ with the gain turned all the way up and the mids all the way down. My signal chain goes guitar to six Metal Zones to amp to 64 iPhone speakers in a shoebox.
*fast pentatonic wankery*
Now let's see how it does with another type of music!
*less fast pentatonic wankery*
Now let's take a look at the clean tone on this thing.
*white man blues*
Well, that's the Ibenbad MemeMachine RGXZKJFDA500, their newest model. Only at Anderson's for the low price of just $2499.99.
See you guys next time!

>>71192640

theres probably some kind of powerleak/short circuit or whatever it is, constantly providing a current to the chain (which is causing the buzz). My best guess is somewhere around the on/off switch. Also maybe one of the jackinputs from one of your cables donezo? or one of the cables themself?

RG2EX2 with seymour duncan humbucker in the bridge. Play with a vox ac10, dunlop crybaby classic, and a few tc electronics pedals (fangs, the prophet, dark matter, ect.) Been playing for about 2 months, mostly black sabbath, slayer, Metallica, ect. Just play for fun.

Custom Pro vs Faded vs Tribute.jpg
478KB, 1400x1431px
I am in the market and I've had my eye on the Epi Custom Pro for a while, but I am trying to figure out what to do.

I figure I've got 3 options.

>Epi Custom Pro
>Gibson Faded Worn Cherry
>Gibson Tribute Honeyburst

I was thinking about maybe shilling out a bit more for one of the new Honeyburst faded Tributes. They look really nice. But I also like the torn down, back to basics Faded as well. It's a tough one.

Any feedback on any of these guitars? I am leaning toward the Epi if I'm honest, but I'd like to hear if any of you guys have any experience with the other two guitars.

Appreciate anything you have to add.

go to guitar center or somewhere and play the fuck out of them and make up your own mind as to what feels right

Here in Australia we don't get that luxury, unless you're in a big city. The nearest decent guitar shop is about 6 hours away and to hell with going down to brisbane. That place is a hell hole. The best guitar shop we have here sells cheap BC Richs and Squiers because they can't afford the licenses.

Any ausfags here btw? I use MusosCorner, what about you?

because he wasn't really a "technical" player, and sound-wise most of it was studio tricks.

Like Man In the Box was recorded on some shitty little 1x12 practice amp that was double mic'd, one on the cone and one in the opening behind the speaker. (https://youtu.be/w-Ew18T75VQ?t=224)

he had an ear for effects though, and knew how to use them without overkill, unlike most other "grunge" guitarists at the time (looking at you cobain), but that's about it.

Rabea massaad is a pretty fucking great guitarist, shame he got bundled with chapfag. Listen to 'ode to the author', literally the same band without chapman and it's 100x better.

If you're not going to be playing live/just recording music, buy an interface and pirate some modelling software and you'll be gucci. I recommend amplitube 3, good range of tones

Les Pauls are a meme, don't waste your money on one.
Don't get an edgy Explorer-type guitar no matter how cool you think it looks.
Floyd Rose is shit for the playing you do, get a fixed bridge and a pitch shifter or flanger if you like dive bombs.
Buy used guitars, instead of cheap new ones.
Don't be scared of the high strings, don't focus on chugga chugga so much.
Try to get into clean sounds earlier and keep learning theory. All that distortion and power chords will hold you back.
Warm up with chromatic exercises and fast upstrokes for 5 minutes before playing, your coordination will be better and scales will be easier.

I want a Les Paul but obviously I can't afford a decent US made one. I heard the cheaper ones might as well be Epiphones the way they rush them through the factory to minimize labor.

How exactly is epiphone?
>>
>>71195521
Never had to use their customer service but Focusrite gear just seems to work first time and keep on working. And the level of detail it reveals in mixes is quite amazing. I don't think you can get better quality sound without throwing megabucks around.

new MIM strat came today

made in '15, but the setup is still really nice

the pickups are kinda uneven, like one side is higher than the other, and it's different for each pickup.
but im not sure if that's intentional or not?
they work fine nonetheless

jack is tighter than a nun's butthole and it's kinda hard to get the cable in and out

kind of debating whether maple neck was a mistake, i remember other ones i played being a lot less.. glossy than this

no pics cuz im lazy
>>
are chapman guitars any good? Thinking about buying the ML-2.
>>
>>71196038
Set up your intonation.
>>
Jazzmaster, Jaguar or Strat?
>>
>>71196262
Pickups can be intentionally uneven. That way you can determine the balance of low and high strings through the amp.
Jack will loosen up pretty fast
If the maple neck feels too glossy, get some fine sand paper and sand the neck for just a bit.
>>
>>71196750
i'll keep the sandpaper in mind
string bending feels a little sticky that's all
