Personally I'd go with either Aphex Twin or MBV for GOAT Irish artists.

Irish-Americans don't count btw.
>>
Van Morrison is pretty good. And I'm partial to post-punk era U2.
>>
enya
>>
>>71180159
Never checked Enya out before, is she actually great?
>>
>>71180218
I like A Day Without Rain a lot but I have the taste of a 50 year old art teacher so idk
>>
any non-folk irish artists that sing in irish?
>>
>>71180017
thin lizzy is the best
>>
>>71180017
Mbv or Van, though the Undertones at least deserve to be mentioned, also
>Aphex Twin
>Irish
hmmmmm I'm Irish and as much as I'd like to say otherwise, the man is the living embodiment of Cornwall
>>
>>71180017
Sinead O Connor
>>
>>71181265
Yeah I was sketchy about including AT since he was only born in Limerick, dunno what he considers himself

Norn Iron > Ireland
Prove me wrong

Ireland should depart from the UK tbqh

Virgin Prunes
Undertones
Stiff Little Fingers (Northern Ireland)
Róisín Murphy
>>
Not making a new thread, but maybe you guys know, looking for a traditional folk song that starts like this:
"Jura jura juraaaaa, jura jura yeeey"

Thanks in advance.
>>
>>71180017
Easily Van Morrison or the Clancy Brothers; Thin Lizzy for more conventional rock stuff
>>
Why is Ireland so bad at rock music compared to, let's say, Scotland?
Apart from MBV, U2 and celtic music, not much more comes from that country.
>>
Aslan crazy world is the worlds catchiest song
>>
the rubberbandits
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iYgPznBrjiA
>>
U2 is probably the greatest album of all time
>>
>>71182715
Róisín Murphy could easily be a /mu/fu if more people knew about her. She's surprisingly good.
>>
>>71182936
The Rubberbandits are a dead meme
>>
>>71180017
Girl Band
>>
>>71182797
>Forgetting Thin Lizzy

I do see your point though. It's been a long time since any new Irish musician has done anything particularly interesting or good in any genre, at least as far as I'm aware.
>>
>>71180017
Altar of Plagues
>>
>>71183188
Girl Band are decent. I know a few friends who have been to see them a couple times, apparently they're really good live.
>>
>>71182797
because it has a population of 4 million people and spent 3 decades fighting the UK.

>>
>>71183267
This is /mu/, talk about music you loser.

Pls don't devolve this thread into Troubles Shitposting featuring IRA defening and and political shitflinging

being at war with propaganda flying everywhere is hardly a good environment for music to thrive

???
>>
>>71183494
why would they be called GREEN day if they weren't irish?
>>
>>71183492
Alright fair enough, your original post just sounded like bait. I'm too used to everything resulting in an argument whenever the Troubles are brought up.

She actually used to get posted reasonably often in the old days

The Pogues.

Best folk rock band ever, let alone Ireland.
>>
>>71183609
Oh really? That's cool to know.

This.

He wasn't born there but he lives there now: Steven Stapleton of Nurse With Wound.

I sent away to Ireland for five CDs a year ago. They came from a place called "The Punchbowl" in Gort, County Galway, very close (I think) to Steven's neighboring residence of Cooloorta, in county Clare. A packing label bears a signature that reads something like "Sr22potl". I believed that this might possibly be Steven's signature itself, so I kept both pieces of the outer packing, and I keep them tucked in the liner notes of my "Chance Meeting..." CD copy now.
>>
>>71183776

Not completely irish, even though they played celtic influenced music.
The band was formed in London by english musicians. A few of those like Shane McGowan and Cait O'Riordan were of irish ancestry.

fuck you contrarians. U2 wins hands down.
>>
Wolfe Tones are pretty based.
>>
>>71180017
Stiff Little Fingers imo
>>
>>71186391
Everyone wins if they put their hands down and stop playing
>>
>>71183677
If you like ASIWYFA check out Leo Dresden, not entirely the same style but you'd probably like them.

Lots of great homegrown talent in Ireland at the moment.
>>
>>71186373
Jun Tzu is hilariously bad
>>
>>71183677
That's pretty good
>>
>>71182588
It's not in the UK?
>>
The Pogues
>>
>>71180017
Can we include Celtic Diaspora?

They are truly the greatest musicians in the world.
>>
>>71183776
Waterboys > Pogues
>>
U2 without a doubt
