i think bad cover art is more damaging to an album's reputation than people would like to admit too. this isn't to say that say, boards of canada don't deserve their rep, but part of the reason a lot of people originally check those albums out will be the alluring covers. whereas when you have shit like this it's just offputting

The story behind it is even better. The artist made that as a mock-up to what the final art would look like, and the band saw it and was like "awesome, we'll use this!" He was mortified that they would use the mock-up and actually requested his name be removed from the album credits.

Blackstar's cover art is 10/10 and a perfect final album though. But could you imagine if he died right after Reality came out and people treated it like they treat Blackstar? Honestly I don't even care if it's anti-Trump or even politically relevant at all, I just want a new Green Day album that's as good as American Idiot.
