there are numerous ways I do this but for starters the most pertinent one would be bandcamp digging by date and unfortunately genre because a lot won't come up with just a date. Otherwise if it were up to me I'd just listen to literally every single thing released.

Then there's albumoftheyear.org which I've found to be the most comprehensive listing of releases and then I just go right down the list and hear literally every single thing.
