this is a chart that i intend to edit throughout the year, based on your suggestions. it contains eps and full-length shugazi releases from 2017. it's early in the year, and the chart isn't even fully filled, so some of the albums on here are pretty not great. by 2018 it'll probably look pretty good though

please post some suggestions ty <3 <3 <3

It's not as pretentious as that makes it sound okay.

Why has no one thought of giving a link, or at least naming the band. It's hardly metal in my opinion. Closer to pop punk and I'm not joking.

I think black metal is what you want with metal+shoegaze, or more specifically, blackgaze.
>>
>>71138786
what similarities does it have to pop punk

>>71138836

>>71138836
I only got to the second song, but on that song, they've got the punk drum pattern & the pop punk clean/major vocal. There's obviously more to it then that, but I had more of that reaction then metal.

I'm only at the first song but so far, I really like this. But I also agree with the other guy in that this doesn't really sound like metal very much.

Can anyone recommend me some blackgaze that's really just shoegaze but heavier? I haven't enjoyed any of the blackgaze that I've listened to, which admittedly isn't much. It's all just post-rock style compositions that don't stick out as particularly memorable to me with some screaming in the background.

Sounds like you ran the guitar into fuzz, and strait into your soundcard/interface and you added plugin reverb in your DAW.

Without an amp and speaker + mic, its harder to get a smooth fuzz. You could use a amp and cab simulator vst + EQ for better results.

Here's a quick recording I just made.
At first it is just Jaguar > SPX-90 > Amp, then when it goes quiet for a split sec, I kick on the Polara reverb for even more reverse smoothness.

Then I turn on the Big Muff which is after the SPX-90 but before the Polara, then lastly, when you hear it get harsher, I turn the Polara off.

https://clyp.it/1laweziy

Even this is kinda a messy quick recording, but it's basically how I get the sound. I'm still adjusting the sound from the SPX-90 in order to make it smoother and less clicky. It could be due to me modifying the unit to accept a guitar's impedance, which made it much brighter...might undo the mod.

My only problem with it is just that there's only two really memorable songs on it, and the rest just kind of bleeds into each other.

It's a solid record, but its not a defining record. Melody feels like an artist that had a lot of unrealised potential, a shame her second album is the musical equivalent of vaporware now.

rain samples are cringy
i would extend the intro
the keyboard is too high in the mix so it makes the overall sound busy
you should probably make them more spare, to produce bigger impact, more similar to the second piano track that appears in the middle
great guitar work until the shitty as fuck guitar solo
they sound cringy, like some anime music
piano chords turn to shit as well

overall it has potential but in the middle turned to scheme

Is there any house-gaze or shoegaze that uses EDM style beats? I know there's downtempo and trip-hop but I'm wondering if there's any straight up 4-on-the-floor stuff.

Other than the production values I liked the track, it has a comfy vibe and then crescendos nicely into some guitar wanking. I wouldn't listen to an entire album of it but it's a perfectly solid song that could be great in a larger work.

That said, you should totally drop whatever project this is like a rock because you clearly have no chemistry with your partner at all. If you're ever talking to anonymous strangers and have to go "oh yeah, X totally sucks, I don't know how I put up with them" then you probably shouldn't be with X, just as general life advice. Go solo or find bandmates you gel with. Note that this doesn't even have anything to do with them being bad or not. If you think they're bad or if you're embarrassed to be associated with them then they could be the greatest thing ever and you should still split immediately.

Anyone know any shoegaze films? Ones that either feature shoegaze songs on the soundtrack or just have that atmosphere. I love Gregg Araki's 90s films and Mysterious Skin is a masterpiece.

>>
>>71187617
Lost in Translation's good, feels weird that MBV are in such a well known film.. not that they're an incredibly obscure band or anything.

I just remembered Electrick Children, which has this song in it https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wY6iyhqGy9U (I'd recommend the film just for the atmosphere alone though)

so this is a weird question but can anybody help me and give me basically a condensed version of this list. I've been trying to listen to as much as I can this last six months but I haven't had a lot of time to dedicate to listening to a bunch of albums. Recently I've been really trying to put more time into this and I started a bunch of these albums and I keep not finishing them or forgetting about them because usually, the only time I can listen is driving or at the gym. Can anybody link me to like a playlist or something so I can just get a variety of shoegaze tracks? Sorry if this is a stupid request but just wondering

If Ride are shoegaze, does that mean we should consider songs by Blur and Oasis to be shoegaze too?
>>

britpop killed shoegaze or assimilated its bands into it

it was also a government conspiracy according to kevin shields
>>
>>71188108

>>
let's say I've got some guitar samples of chords and a few notes, will I be able to create shoegaze from this? I tried putting a few samples in audacity with a reverse reverb but it wasn't good. If not, can I make shoegaze with only fl studio and various synth VST?

You greatly overestimate the importance of this little community.

>>71189033

Yes, but unless you put in a ridiculous amount of time (and are a particularly proficient producer) it will never sound anything like normal shoegaze. That's not a bad thing at all though, we need more projects that bring a unique sound to the genre. You may want to also consider pulling in the vocaloid aspect as well if you're already going full electronic.

Depends on the kind of gaze you wanna do my friend. This is one of those genres where both male and female vocals are pretty equal.

Female vocals can be a lot sweeter and/or more ethereal.

Male vocals can be a lot mellower or depressed.

If you wanna make some gaze for yourself, either write around your voice, or pay some girl to do it.
