Hey guys

What's a good guitar?

Serious question: What's a good guitar around 500 € with HSS pickups, 22 frets and double cutaway body shape that will sound good clean and crunched? I would like a locking nut and a fixed bridge, if possible.
>>
>>71130939
>locking nut and fixed bridge

>>
>>71130927
Salutations
>>
>>71130939
I looked through all guitars on thomann (and thomann has a shitton of guitars) and could't find anything that fits all those criteria. Especially not the locking nut.
>>
>>71130939
>locking nut and a fixed bridge
Why? That's going to be impossible to find, and kind of pointless honestly. Even omitting the locking nut it would still be hard to find. You could try looking at used Charvels. I think most of them are 22-frets, but I haven't seen many HSS ones.
>>
>>71131083
>>71130958
>>71131095
Honestly the locking nut isn't really necessary, I just want the guitar to stay in tune and that seems to help. Right now I have a guitar with a floating trem but I blocked it so it's essentially a fixed bridge.

HSS just because I want a strat-y type sound from the neck (and middle) pickups, but I might just get something with HH and rewire it to switch the coils between series and parallel.

Essentially: What's a versatile guitar for around 500 €? (used is an option)
I like playing high notes, hence the 22+ frets (so no memecasters).
>>
>>71131147
Any guitar is versatile. Split coils dont sound like single coils, if you want that sound then get that set up. Your blocked trem still has fine tuners which any fixed bridge wont have, so youll be unlocking the nut all the time. If you want to stay in tune then get better tuners, higher gear ratio and better tolerances.

Trying guitars at the store won't really give me a good impression though, since my liking or disliking a certain guitar might just be down to the different amp / effects.

>>71131451
Play it without an amp. Comfiness should be your main target for that sort of price range as most instruments in that price range will vary greatly in quality. Don't worry too bad about tone, your strings, electronics, pickups, and pedals will be the main decider of that which you can change later. The instrument itself doesn't matter too badly unless you're wanting to do feedback stuff.
>>71131438
High pass filter, couple of Distortion pedals, a tremolo pedal, very low string action (don't worry about fret buzz it won't matter and will add to the authenticity), and some practice with Tremolo Picking will take you places.

Basically, a high pass filter will cut out your low and give your sound that "screech" black metal has. Watch that video @ 1:20 to understand why a tremolo is useful for black metal, you combine that and tremolo picking to achieve a rapid and aggressive sound. To give you an idea of an effect chain for black metal it should go something like:
distortion->tremolo->distortion->high pass filter
>>

Stereo guitar is a waste of time. If you pan it wide then most of the audience will hear one side of the stereo much louder than the other side. If you're using tempo-sync delay then half the rhythmic effect is lost, if you're using stereo chorus then it starts to sound out of tune.

That's also true but a passive filter will a) act as a non-infinite load on what comes before and therefore have different effects depending on what's around it in the signal chain, b) not give you the option of amplifying the signal and c) have a negative effect on your SNR.

I run a stereo rig and it's not really as big a deal as it looks on paper. I run a mono chain up until the end where the signal splits and I run a two slightly different reverbs to create the "size" of the sound.

Parallel chains are awesome but impractical generally.

You really don't need high pass filters for black metal tones. Rule of thumb is get your source as good as possible and tweak from there.

I did this really quickly with a 5150 eq'd fairly bright.
https://clyp.it/d5apjdjp

>>71132156
It sounds thick and chunky when practicing. A lot of guitarists don't fully understand how your tone changes with volume and in a full band mix.

You can actually get away with scoops in single guitar bands. Two guitars though? You're going to be fighting an uphill battle. Really though in a full mix you want to capitalise on the midrange.

It's the first time in a guitar general and I have the feeling that PRS are hated here.

Anyway, I just ordered a 2017 PRS SE Custom 22 Semi-Hollow after playing it for 30 minutes. First time I fall in love with a guitar. Is a fucking beauty that plays like a fucking angel.

buy a pack just in case
>>71137432
It's bait???
>>
>>71137432
how is it bait when its a perfectly valid question due to various rules on batteries in packages
>>
>>71136683
this one isn't the worst but it's just so unbelievably stupid

top wrapping on LPs while keeping the tailpiece flush with the body will increase sustain. you have to a fucking moron to believe this. the tailpiece has adjustable bolts for a reason and keeping the tailpiece flush isn't going to do a fucking thing to your tone.

It should but buy extras
>>

But it'll make my amp sound less like it's floating in a dry empty void.
>>
>>71137818
But you dont need a $3000 high gain tube head to accomplish that when you can use a metal zone and sound just as shitty

>using any of this goofy Gibshit shit

water only on the fretboard if it's not old and absolutely disgusting, naptha for cleaning the wood if it's finished, water if it isn't, and then oil it

Jazzmaster by miles ahead. More different sound and usable. Jaguar's neck pup it is like a shittier stratish neck pup and brigde pup is like a shittier teleish bridge pup. It is good for 50s, 60s stuff with that metallic, jangly sound but for the rest of genres lacks against the strat, tele and jazzmaster. Also, short scale.

I'm not actually sure what they treat Violin strings with to keep them from corroding.
I've replaced a lot of violin's strings with the "cheaper"(still $20 or so a set) Prelude strings by D'Addario. Kids will use these for a whole school year or longer during rental season.

Some other factors are the lack of frets on an orchestra instrument. The nickel- silver frets are intentionally a little softer as to avoid damaging strings too badly, it's why I don't recommend stainless steel fret wire.

On my classical guitars I have to replace them about every two months. The treble nylons are generally okay, but the Basses are generally corroded and dented due to intense and prolonged play.

bowed instrument strings behave pretty much like flatwound guitar/bass strings, there's no space in between the winding so junk can't add up in there

How's that Keeley? I've been thinking about getting one. ISO compressor that gives you that sweet clicking pick attack
