So /mu/ what happened to rock? Did grunge kill it? Did it die on its own?
>if something is not rubbed on my face 24/7 then it's dead
Will always be a drone

I think it died on it's own. It god milked for what it was worth and over genres came to take it's place.
Nothing sad there. You can still listen to the records there are.

That's true but the fact that there's no more good rock bands, at least not many, is depressing.
classic rock is not a genre, it's just a description
modern classic rock is an oxymoron
are you asking about classic rock or rock?
classic rock is really just rock from a certain time period, so nothing made these days can really be considered classic rock.
as for "regular" rock. it is very much alive

The fact rock was allowed to "die off" is what keeps it fresh to me.
The good rock bands get known because they are good and not because they get forced down your throat (i'm looking at you rap)
Dude it's been thirty good years since Rock was relevant. Not counting Grundge and post-punk.
People change, societies progress and culture changes too, right now young people are into electronic stuff, pop and hip hop.
Deal with it.
