Remember the time when David Bowie sold out?
Yes.
>>71083455
That's a good album.
>he doesn't like let's dance
>>71083485
God, that cover is ugly.
>>71083494
>>71083493
It's okay, but it's appealing to the general population like you two.
The modern love video is goat, its so 80's it hurts, and reminds me of buckaroo banzai
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1hDbpF4Mvkw
He was still good
>>71083520
Did someone say "Ugly David Bowie album cover"?
>>71083556
I refuse to believe that's real...
>>71083556
This is like a polished version of something I would've drawn on a computer at age 7
>>71083596
FUCK
Its real!?
Who the fuck would do such a thing
>>71083533
W-what do you mean?
>>71083615
And to think this album has a top 5 Bowie song on it...
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3PHnLR_LWk
>>71083556
Hay that album was pretty good
Heroes is David bowie best album
>>71083621
It was intentionally appealing to a lower common denominator, and was for money and the success on the charts. Even he said it fucked with his integrity
Bowie would have like a streak of really great albums, then he would make complete shit, then realize he made shit, then make another streak of good albums.
Even when he sold out the music was good.
He was really in tune with trends, you see him in the modern love video dressed like some 80's pop star, then in the 90's he is dressed like an extra from the movie hackers
>>71083682
*second best
>>71083721
No black star is better
Wow look at this fucking monstrosity I made.
>>71083718
I fucking love his hair here.
>>71083826
What bowie best deep cut
>>71083455
>caring about artists selling out
the fact that it appealed to a bigger audience doesn't make it not good
>>71083873
Some of my favorites:
Bring Me The Disco King

Aladdin Sane (the song)
The Sweet THing Medley
It's Gonna Be Me (w/stings)
Will provide links if wanted.
>>71083873
The Supermen
>>71083908
It's because Bowie lost a large amount of artistic integrity by appealing to the masses, it can be successful, but the music is not as good
What the fuck I put in Blackstar....
>>71083920
Thank fame
>>71083541
the opening three lines to that song sound so much like Brian Molko
>>71084011
No problem.
I'm busy combining Bowie covers in Dreamscope.
Bowie started out as a glam rocker, then did a bunch of coke and thought he was hitler, then made a bunch of super experimental albums, then he sold out in the 80's, then he made some forgettable shit, then in the 90's kurt cobain reminded everyone david bowie was still alive by playing man who sold the world and bowie sucked trent rezonrs life essence and got brian eno to produce some more and made some underrated late in life albums.
Then he decided he got old and just started wearing suits all the time, then he had a massive heart attack and became a recluse, then he made one final great album about him dying from cancer .

The Man Who Sold The World>Aladdin Sane

Diamond Dogs>The Man Who Sold The World

I was on here mostly for Bowie threads when I started here too.
If I said my top 5 I'm pretty sure I'd be beheaded.
>>71084673
Say it.
I main
>Low (What in the world is best)
>Heroes (Sons of the Silent Age is best)
>The Rise and Fall of Ziggy (Lady Stardust is bes)

That's...like...the worst track, my man.
(Then again who the hell am I to judge?)
>>71084798
ONE DAY THOUGH IT MIGHT AS WELL BE SOME DAY
(I'm biased because it's literally my fucking love song, but I mean more the single version that you can check out in Sound & Vision not the Aladdin Sane version)
>>71084819
>it's literally my fucking love song
Ohhhh...someone's got a girlfriend. Niice.
I'll be sure to check that version out.

Too lazy to look for other ones at the moment.
Tonight is Loving the Alien and Let's Dance is Modern Love.
>>71084865
This guy.
>>71083556

>Hey anyone have a puppy I can go kick?"
What's wrong with Arabia?
>>71085185
>You forgot the album that shall not be named, even if Sorrow is the only correct answer.
It's just, I mean, come on man it's either Black Out, Sons of the Silent Age or the six-minute cut of Heroes. You need to choose one of the three.
>>71085212
>the album that shall not be named
SHHH!
But anyway, the B side to Heroes is underrated as hell, my man. V2 Schneider, Moss Garden, and Arabia are some of my favorite songs of his.
>>71085232
Okay well let's just say that you had to pick from the three which one would it be?
I would choose Sense of Doubt as my personal side B choice.

Of your three?
Heroes > Sons > Blackout
Of my three:

Of both combined
Secrets > Moss > Heroes > V2 > Sons > Blackout

Let me go listen to Arabia again.
Also, if you have the time, rank Hunky Dory and Ziggy, or another of your choosing.
I'm interested in what you'd put down

Wow, holy fuck. We finally agree on something. I think this album is fantastic but It Ain't Easy is such an off-putting song.
>>71085427
Sure. Space Oddity. I love that album and think it's underrated.
In fact I'll do it too. :)
>>71085453
Fun story actually, not the girl i'm with now but one before actually fell in love with me after I pulled a quote from "Five Years" during a very emotional conversation. Not worth it to disgust bowie's name in that way, bitch was crazy

It's murged with Unwashed. It doesn't count!
Either way: Did you just IGNORE the orchestra on Wild Eyed? How do you rank something that beautiful so low?
Let's Dance [EMI America, 1983]
Anyone who wants Dave's $17 million fling to flop doesn't understand how little good motives have to do with good rock and roll. Rodgers & Bowie are a rich combo in the ways that count as well as the ways that don't, and this stays up throughout, though it's perfunctory professional surface does make one wonder whether Bowie-the-thespian really cares much about pop music these days. "Modern Love" is the only interesting new song, the remakes are pleasantly pointless, and rarely has such a lithe rhythm player been harnessed to such a flat groove. Which don't mean the world won't dance to it. B

I'm just now realizing that...
black star is a bad album and only acclaimed because he died within days of releasing it

Well, i'll leave you with this.
Cold fire, you've got everything but cold fire
You will be my rest and peace, child
I moved up to take a place
Near you
So tired, it's the sky that makes you feel tried
It's a trick to make you see wide
It can all but break your heat
In pieces
Staying back in your memory
Are the movies in the past?
How you moved is all it takes
To sing a song of when I loved
The prettiest star
One day, though it might as well be someday
You and I will rise up all the way
All because of what you are
The prettiest star"

Yes. That's how he started. And I'm glad he made albums like The Man Who Sold The World, Low, Station to Station, Heroes, Heathen, 1.Outside and Blackstar.
>>71084105
Upon David Bowie's death he returned all the life essence to Trent Reznor returning back all the rage and anger within, making him to create Not The Actual Events.

Practically compulsory, at this point.
>>71085305
There's others, but this is the most faithful alternate.
I understand what he was going for. Bowie always took risks, and often they paid off. His album art was more often where it faltered, even if I still love some of the missteps.

Fascination
It's honestly hard for me to give Bowie deep cuts, because while most of his singles are also 10/10, I've also consistently found about 3/4ths of everything else to be way more brilliant.
The Sweet Thing suite is widely regarded as a cult-hit classic. Most of Young Americans is overlooked. Listen to the whole album of Aladdin Sane, it's the bastard child of Ziggy and arguably a better collection of songs.
Start with these selections and just listen sequentially. More of it is a good deep cut than not, and a ton of the joy comes from hearing the connected transition between albums and aesthetics. While he is known for being all over the place, being a chameleon, if you're smart and you understand his style and thought, there's always a lead-in the album before. Every time.
To be really lame, the line from Ashes to Ashes; "I never did anything out of the blue"
