Yeah I've had them for about 2 years and still work perfectly but in every headphones thread I've always read they're meme tier
They don't have any soundstage and are really uncomfortable, you could do better for the price.

like?

I bought mine in 2013 and they are just as good as the day I got them

They're a meme for a reason.

They're good headphones but they're not comparable to M50s. 598s are openback while M50s are closedback.
I'm not OP but I have a question related to this. I've read that the M40x are actually more accurate/have a flatter frequency response. Since I wanted flat response headphones I was considering getting the m40x but I've been told that I'm not gonna want flat frequency response and that a v curve response headphone would make it sound better. I still think I want flat frequency response but say I buy them and it turns out I really do prefer the extra bass and treble instead of it being even, would I be able to easily remedy this by using my music player's equalizer and just turning up the bass and treble? and also can someone verify that the m40x are more accurate than the 50s?

I'd recommend Beyerdynamic DT770, might be a bit more expensive (or cheaper) depending on where you live, Sennheisers would be a good bet too >>71073809
I have the m50s, I'm pretty sure they're almost the exact same except for detachable cable and I really don't think the comfort is adequate for extended listening and closed-in sound you get with the lack of soundstage makes it pretty inferior to something like the Beyerdynamics

what the hell is sounstage anyway?

It's kind of hard to explain, it's like how the headphones reproduce spaciousness. If they have good/wide soundstage the instruments would sound like they're a part from each other, like if there was a band on a stage you'd be able to pinpoint what sound are coming from where, if they headphones don't have much soundstage it just sounds like everything's coming from one place.

maybe with a DAC
They're great for their price range, and I'm not saying that to be a smarmy cunt, they're really good. For future reference I recommend that you thoroughly research your purchases around the internet and learn of all the concept and terms when you're looking for a good pair of headphones, it's invaluable information.
