The thing is I hate Weezer's name, image, general style etc. But some of their songs I just can't hate. For instance, the dual guitar solo at the end of "Only in Dreams" is one of my 10/10 moments, "Buddy Holly" and "Hash Pipe" are catchy af, and boy "The Good Life" and "Pork and Beans" are hot shit.

I don't think it's either, but more of the second one than the first.
It's more just "everything sucks for everyone get used to it" in it's message i think.
It's also really tongue in cheek and i like the song even if it's actually 100% serious in it's lyricism.
I think he's just putting words that sound good together and work with music and maybe that's not always the best way to get your thoughts and opinions on things out.
But i think when he says "i've got all the luck i need, shit's gonna work out for me" right before the next song being about someone really close to them being murdered doesn't really make it seem too serious.
