Beginning on Sun Ra, looking at his live albums from 60's-70's. Listened to a bit of Albert Ayler and Peter Brotzmann before then and I really enjoyed Ghosts and Love Cry from Ayler and Machine Gun from Brotzmann.

Any good jazz with strings?

Only album I consistently hit is Moanin', sorry OP. Although there are some great 12" /mu/ never talks about, it's alway album albums albums
