what does /mu/ think of Emil Amos and his projects (Grails, Holy Sons, Lilacs & Champagne, OM)
He's one of my favorite musicians and I'm constantly surprised how little attention his music gets. Holy Sons should be way more popular.
Btw a new Grails drops tomorrow. His podcast is also damn good.
Yeah, he's definitely one of my favorites too. So much material to choose from in every direction. His work ethic and aesthetic senses are something to look up to in a sea of really boring music and art. the first Black Tar Prophecies comp changed my life in highschool and I Want To Live A Peaceful life changed my life in college.

I Want To Live A Peaceful Life is so beautiful
Genuinely think the only reason he isn't more popular is because he hasn't been reviewed by p4k or needledrop so his music isn't "trendy"
I've been a huge fan since Black Tar Prophecies 1-3. My experience was similar to >>71052995, it was something totally new for me at the time and was definitely part of my wide branching out (including with other TRL artists like BtEoT, Mono, and most especially Tarentel).
They dropped some great stuff through the years since, but their recent run of Deep Politics (OK, semi-recent) and now Chalice Hymnal has been a career highlight. I got the vinyl in the mail on Tuesday; loved every second and the album art is top notch.
Have to completely agree >>71052605, his podcast is fantastic. I've never really gotten into podcasts in the past, but if they're basically just super interesting radio like this I definitely will.
Also been into Lilacs & Champagne, picked up almost all of their vinyl. And /long post.

I agree. He seems to get decent coverage for Grails through most popular sites (except needledrop?) but it seems like the same sites almost intentionally avoid Holy Sons for some reason.

glad to hear the new album is good. really have not listened to the singles cause I wanted to save it for the full album so I can smoke and listen to it
Lilacs & Champagne is fantastic. really dig that giallo/euro film score vibe.

>His podcast is also damn good.
yeah I've found so much good music from it and his stories are so fascinating. GOAT listening for nights when you can't get any sleep and just lay around or go for a walk.

I only know him from OM and his appearances on Duncan Trussels Family Hour.
What is a good entry point for his other projects? is there a chart?
I don't really like the direction OM went after he joined, whats his solo stuff like?
>>71053969
there isn't a chart, though I've been thinking of making one.
for Holy Sons I'd say start with Criminal's Return or Drifter's Sympathy. Or if you're a lo-fi fan just go straight to his older recordings but I'd recommend first listening to couple of his more recent albums then the early stuff. they're all here
https://holysons.bandcamp.com/
my personal favorites are I Want to Live a Peaceful Life (an old school folk album but made in the modern lo-fi style )and Criminal's Return (goat winter album) though I do basically just love all of his releases
for Grails, start with the Black Tar Prophecies releases and there go to Burning Off Impurities
https://grails.bandcamp.com/
Lilacs and Champagne only has two albums and two EP's so I'd say just listen to em all in the order they came out. Lilacs has a sound inspired by the giallo/eurotrash soundtracks of the 70's so they're pretty cool

and if you want to listen to his podcast here's a link. listen to it in chronological order. every other episode is Emil telling his life story about growing up and doing drugs and every other is a music related episode where he digs up some obscure shit
