Creativity and unique riff writing has always been his thing, solid player technically but not a scratch on actual virtuoso guitarists.

this pretty much. he's my favourite and certainly one of the best rock musicians when it comes to creativity and originality (and writing good music). but he was never a fan of the "bragging" guitar style of hair rock with 2 minute solos and so on and it's very unlikely he trained that kind of stuff at all.

his solo stuff is also very good btw, i have a signed LP of his debut, hopefully it will be worth lots of $$$ someday.
