Would it be a bad idea putting Light baritone strings on a 25.5? I mean I've done baritone tuning on it before with lighter strings and worked relatively fine

How many packs of strings do you usually go through in, say a year? How many picks? Do you tend to break strings before you change them? What's your policy on changing strings when one breaks like a week (or two, or three, or a month, ...) after changing the entire set?
>>

>>
>>71032346
>How many packs of strings do you usually go through in, say a year?
About 6 or 7.

>How many picks?
Been using the same pick for the last year and a half. It's a Dragonheart, and those things are indestructible.

> Do you tend to break strings before you change them?
No, I can notice them going out of tune quicker and sounding worse than they should when it's time for a change.

>What's your policy on changing strings when one breaks like a week (or two, or three, or a month, ...) after changing the entire set?
If that ever did happen to me, I'd buy a single string, preferably from the same manufacturer/brand as the rest, and just change that.
>>
Guys, I am looking for a really "SOLID" solid state amp. I am aware tube amps are "better", but I am not able to own one at the moment because I live in an apartment, so I gotta play the amp on a lower volume levels. Therefore, as we know, tube amps are supposed to get cranked for them to get that "sweet toan". Budget =< $800.

Genres that I play are progressive metal. Meaning a multi channel amp is a must. (I want that sweet metal toan, and crispy cleans).

The article is pure horseshit and shilling, as usual, but it's the comment section you should pay attention to. And as expected, people are calling bullshit on this nonsense, as they should. So, all is well. Now, if a day comes that the commenters on UG start defending tonewood and relicing, then you know it's gonna be time to jump ship and never look back.

>>71032346
>How many packs of strings do you usually go through in, say a year?
A lot. 1 guitar gets strings every quarter. 2 get them every month or every 4 shows(if i dont play it live it doesnt count), whichever comes first. 5 string bass gets them about every month and a half, or when it sounds bad recording. 4 string gets them when im recording with it(its been over a year, i use the 5 for everything now), both acoustics will get them if im recording or performing with it, been 4 months on one and 2 on the other.

>How many picks?
I buy a 12 pack everytime i buy strings, i lose them before they where out.

Do you tend to break strings before you change them?
Broken 1 string in the past 10 years, that was when we ended up playing 5 nights in a row unexpectedly, and i was close to a month on them already. Broke it during a really hype jam over superstition, was able to change it real quick while the key player went ham.

>What's your policy on changing strings when one breaks like a week (or two, or three, or a month, ...) after changing the entire set?
Change them all, i play the cheap D Addarios. It would be too confusing if it were to happen now. Hasnt happened since my first 4 years of playing, i was in a punk band and breaking strings all the time.

>>
>>71032346
i'd say about 2-3 but i don't gig.

i buy my picks in packs of 10 and usually lose about half of them, so about 2 packs a year (so i always have 10-15 on hand at any given time)

I usually wait for a string to break and then restring the entire guitar. If a string breaks right after restringing then i just buy a new pack and salvage that one string, and throw the rest into my "loose" collection if another breaks and i don't have a full pack available.
>>
>>71033876
i used to do the same and ended up with a useles bunch of packs all without the same string

>>71031723
If you think it looks cool and keeps you wanting to pickup and play it then it's a good starter guitar. It's only $250 used so it isn't too bad if you quit because you can resell it for the same price anyways. My cousin is a huge fan of Brand New and wanted to start playing guitar, got a Squier Jag and he's been more inclined to keep at it
>>
>>71034386

Well thats fine and all if you get free strings but I dont notice any real tangible difference with old strings. For my drum kit it costs 300€ to change all the skins (2 bass drums skins are 80€ alone) but its had the same skins for almost 10 years and I dont give a fuck tb.h.
>>
>>71034440
I'm one of those guitarist that work on technique for a clean assault. Some licks demand a slanted pick, but when I play blues I can relax.

tuneomatics are just shit, an adjustable wraparound is much more comfortable and doesn't bite the shit out of the strings as much

i never buy something as shit as a gibson, their headstock is literally why their necks go to SNAP CITY if you drop them 2feet at any angle

they also have most of your strings bending like fuck past the nut to get to the tuning pegs, straight retarded
>>

Are you saying they stay in tune or they don't? Because it's definitely the latter.
>>
>>71034730

string angled/bending from the nut to the tuning pegs is necessary to create tension for tuning stability.
thats why the fenders have that string tree, to create the same angle as their headstock isnt angled

I'm done with guitar.
I've recently listened for the first time to Bach, and suddenly both my classical and electric guitar seem unadequate. I can't help to think about how limited these instruments are.

It has been a nice ride, but now it's time to become a piano virtuoso. Wish me luck.
>>
>>71035208

Nope, sounds like you messed up some settings. Ableton is weird to get working with direct audio in. On the channel you're using, you need to use external audio in, and on like 'On' mode, not 'Auto' mode.

an example would be the only reason Ween started using jazz chords is because when they were doing chocolate and cheese their producer had stevie wonder songbooks lying around and Deaner stole the all 2nd fret fsharp weird chord

I really want to buckle down and start learning to play the guitar and I have a big question.

I'm left-handed. In your honest opinion, do you believe that I should learn to be playing the "normal way" with my left hand holding down the frets and strumming with my right hand or should I flip the guitar around and strum with my left hand and hold frets down with my right hand? Also, if I did flip the guitar around, should I redo the order of the strings as well?
>>
>>71037636
Do the normal way, guitars are cheaper and easier to get a hold of, it'll make your life in general so much easier.

>>71037636
you could play it like a normal left handed guitar player. the advantage is the natural comfort, you'd probably be able to progress faster. the only disadvantage is it's harder to find left handed guitars, especially used. not only is the selection of left handed guitars limited but they're non existent used. Once you reach a certain level you'll realize the glory of used gear, sometimes finding slightly used high quality instruments for half price. but, on the other side of that, left handed guitars are generally more costly new, but less costly used.
if you flip it over then definitely restring it so the strings are in a normal orientation, it just makes it so much easier to convey musical ideas if it's related to something standard. for anecdotal evidence, i played a jam gig once where the soundguy would not put bass in my monitor, the set up is he would set the key and i had to look at his fretboard to figure out the key, if i wasn't used to it i could have opened up out of key. aside from that, it'll be easier to learn from other people.

tl;dr play normal left handed and have a more limited choice in guitars, or play right handed and maybe have a little more difficulty starting out, but either way string it properly.

also, stringing it properly upside down will require a new nut to be proper.
>>
>>71037886
that's a negative. i have a cheap wavetable synth with midi through usb. i can't justify a rhodes right now because i'm not a good enough player(only been semi serious with keys for about 3 months after 14 years of fucking around). maybe when im in my 30s ill have rhodes and a hammond. i do have a cheap solid state hammond knockoff from the 70s and a 2 octave wind organ, but they dont get much love.
>>
>>71037970
open c is a guitar tuning where the open strings are tuned to the notes in a c chord

an example of one variation would be, high to low

E
C
G
E
C
G

Check out Andy Mckee's Rylan if you want a good example of using an open tuning. some people just use it as a way to make dense sounding music without knowing every variation of a chord across the neck.
>>
>>71038239

My floyd rose special on my first guitar is ruined more or less. It's tarnished, the saddles keep popping up and one of the posts has rusted and seized inside in the sleeve.

I'm not really sure on what to do. If I get a new floyd rose original from america, I'm looking at about $400. But I am kind of tired of having to mess about with floyds. For just a couple hundred bucks more, I could get something like an Epiphone LP Standard.

Stick to a brand, model and rarity of a specific piece of gear. Make sure it's something you know the worth of right away and that the certain model you're selling is desired. For rarity before you buy something to flip make sure you check online to see your "competition" if you were to sell it. Memorize the average resale price of it and make sure you can profit at least $100. My Brand was Fender, models were Mustangs/Cyclones/Duos etc. and color is what I looked for in rarity. It's a cool thing to get into to try out guitars as well, I would've never thought that Flying Vs and Mustangs would be my most comfy guitars when I was strict Strat/Tele guy

The shape depending on the guitar is cut to be comfortable one way. This isn't an issue on dreadnoughts as they're symmetrical, but if it has a cutaway it'll be on the wrong side, and electrics you pretty much have to get in left handed as they're shaped in a specific way.

The nut and saddle also need to be changed, they're both cut in a certain way so the specific size strings fit well.

The other day an anon told me that a Yamaha FG800 is a good starter guitar. Can anyone else confirm? Or do you have another suggestion?
>>
>>71040516
it isn't a true tele, my man.

Just put on light gauge strings (9s) to try em out

These things fucking suck

The only people that hate the metal zone are people who never used it or are too retarded to twists knobs. It's pretty bad, but it's more useable than some other op amp based distortions(DISTORTION, NOT FUZZ OR OVERDIRVE).

It's a meme because of social media, it doesnt sound good but it's not as bad as people claim it to be.

Congrats on realizing you dont like things that arent normal to you. You may be human after all.

Metal zone is ok with that ge-7. I don't have a metal zone myself, but i use the ge-7 with an hm-2. Kinda "thickens" it up a bit.
