I wouldn't say it was them specifically but they were part of the overall movement. Typically its their experimentation with feedback I think

They weren't really influential at all, except perhaps in the Japanese underground scene. It's just that they weren't widely known until the internet and now they are getting attention by all these new listeners.

Yeah, as a musical/theatrical troupe. They didn't start seriously working as a band until 1967, where they were influenced by groups like The Velvet Underground.
