The old adage that heavy guitars sound better isnt always true.
Try playing heavy guitars live for hours, its hell.
Once you start going north of like 8lbs you start to really feel every single ounce of that weight.
I started having back problems after playing a heavy les paul for years. I switched to an SG and the pain went away.
>>
>>71014195
>>71014128
I had this Olive green one and the P90 Red one and they were worse than the Squier VM. Same issues with both, replace the pickups and the non traditional parts such as the hardtail and toggle switch just makes it a 2 pickup short scale Strat. Get the VM for $250 and drop an extra $50-100 on new pickups and you'll have a great sounding $350 traditional Mustang. You can also pay double and get a Jap one
>>
>>71014612
You never owned any of those guitars though and you have no idea what you're talking about

This. I have a les paul with modern weight relief and multiple people have told me that the light les pauls don't have the sustain of a full body les paul. Me and a buddy tested this once and mine lasted a good 5-10 seconds longer each time we held the same note.

Plus I probably won't need back surgery in 30 years.

Tone is mostly psychological. The mental image of yourself holding and playing the insrument matters a lot.

Delay has a setting called decay that affects how long the delay will trail in terms of milliseconds usually. Setting it up to never decay causes that sound to keep repeating at the specified interval continously until you turn the repeat hold off.

So you can literally add layer after layer of sounds to create weird bullshit.

The way they vibrate against your body is similar to an acoustic guitar, plus you do get that bit of air moving through the f-holes that's enough to make a difference in the experience of playing one. Depending on your pickups you might be able to pick up some of that acoustic quality. Plus they're really light. A 335 for example to me feels like a more sophisticated Les Paul. Every Les Paul i've played just feels like shit now...

Same goes for hollowobodies (but they're less versatile because of feedback issue)

I like it on semi-hollows because the feedback isn't extreme and easily controllable. On a full hollowbody it'll basically react like an acoustic guitar played through the amp, the feedback is totally out of control. You can get away with using a thinline hollowbody like a casino though

The first run of the Jag bass was so much better than the current.

Try to find it. It had the JJ pickups and a J neck but it had the ability to run the pickups in series or parallel so you could do either J or P sounds.

The new jag bass is really just a P/J with a different body. Not really a new bass.

Guitar is just another instrument and can be used as such, neither good nor bad. If you don't understand that music doesn't come from a piece of wood or any other material object, then it's your fault.

The sound of a vibrating string is fundamentally musical. And it's basically the guitar's sound. Theremins are a weird electronic novelty from the 20s. Very shitty example.

American line comes off the production line in predetermined appointments and colors.

The custom shop will also allow dealers to order some 'custom' guitars. For example your local shop may decide to order 20 strats with soft V neck made out of all rosewood. Or something more exotic to draw in customers to something you can only get at their shop.

The quality is probably the same to my knowledge. I think the 'custom shops' you buy premade from the shops are just plek machined and not hand made for you like a true custom which has some guy in the Fender shop build for you to your choice of spec and color.

The Americans come in several lines and the American production instruments don't cut corneres and have the best components. Where as the mexi and squire guitars cut corners everywhere to reduce cost and production time. Fretting, wiring, wood dryness, bridge type, tuner type, glue, finish, paint, neck etc are all done much better in the USA. If you can fix a guitar yourself you can buy amexican but this usually involved drying the wood and recurving the radius of the rosewood.

Special:
$1000 gets you a 'modern' guitar with texas special pickups aka a little hotter than the typical for more rock tone.

American Professional: The new meme line with a 'deep C' neck which gives you a fat neck for the chording part of the neck and a thin one for shredding. Seems to make sense but I havn't played it. The pick ups are also really great. The shawbucker in particular because it gives you a humbucker sound while still balancing with the two single coils and sovles the problem that HSS has had forever of the two tones just not going well together.

>American Elite: The souped up strat. Its got the 'noiseless' pickups so they don't hum without being a humbucker. It also has S-1 switching and humbucker only mode.

All these guitars are made on the same line though. The prices just reflect the fancier appointments. the quality of each build is the same.

Strap button behind the neck joint allows me to hold the neck in a more vertical fashion and play way easier. I look like a retard when playing but at least I can play.

Also the Vintage series recreates the classic appointments from the pre-cbs years that purists love to collect. They sound actually slightly different then the legit ones but who knows if that has to do with age or what.

Also, the artist series guitars are nice because you can get some of the other random appointments you can't on the regular line.

For example the EJ strat is essentially a 57 strat but it has a 12' radius fretboard and a bound rosewood neck.

The Jim Root is a metal Stratocaster. etc.

I ended up buying an Eric Johnson and I didn't even know who he was until I looked up him up later. I just thought his guitar felt the most comfortable and sounded the best.

Hope that helped. I have had Mexican instruments and they always reveal their flaws after a couple of changes of season. You end up living with their problems or paying to get it fixed, or doing it yourself.

Also, one of the few recurring problems from the American line is the finish they use Nitrocellulose laquer on some instruments. This is the one they used in the 50s so people like it, though I don't know if its just nostalgia or if its actually better. Anyway its notoriously hard to apply and sometimes the neck will get too much making it feel 'sticky' to play. The extra finish will wear off after a few weeks of use and it will be fine but people who don't know will often freak out and return the guitar until the finish is perfect.

In fact I think the NItro finish tends to wear off faster which some people like some people don't. So if you want a brand new guitar look you might want to avoid it. If you want it to look aged you may want to get it.

Because apparently we need more evidence that guitar is being replaced by laptops. Now you can use a laptop to make relevant music while still being able to reach your novelty instrument(really what guitar has been since
the 50s) to still feel like your years of practice still matter. Apple has always been ahead of the trends, its not different now.

Guitar is literally on life support.

Hello, could you help me out with this song please?

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X3MqKnuvBiQ

all i can make out of it is that its in the key of C minor, but i dont even know if the guitar is tuned down, or what chord figures it is using.

Also i would like to know what good excersises i can do to learn to improvise like the solo part, like i get the feeling its kinda hendrix inspired, but how do you even begin to learn that? are there good transcriptions of hendrix solos? what scales are used?

all help is appreciated, thank you

Everyone always talks about sustain like it even matters. Are you playing 30 second suspended single notes? I think even a Strat with a bolt-on neck will be more than enough sustain than regular player needs. "Oh, my guitar only sustains for 13 seconds" Really, who EVER plays a single note for than long in real life? Queers, that's who
>>
>>71018569
I've never once played a Strat or a Tele and though hmmm, this guitar doesn't sustain long enough. But I've played plenty f Gibsons and thought hmm, this doesn't have enough attack to the notes.

If you're gonna follow >>71019337 advice regarding overdrive; I highly recommend the Darkglass B3K. It's relatively pricey but great-sounding overdrive, it sounds good on both active and passive basses. Best of all it doesn't sacrifice any lows with the right settings.
>>
>>71019517

Depends on your definition of decent. People have different goals.
>>
>>71019481
Try a different instrument. I struggled with guitar for a decade before I picked up a bass and had 10x the fun in a week. Now I focus exclusively on bass but own a guitar for fucking around on.
>>
>>71019427
Something like that will help you retain low end, there are bass fuzz pedals that have a blend circuit built in.

If you're handy with a soldering iron check out guitarpcb, you can get his blend circuit and hes got a few fuzz options. 2 muffs, tomebender, fuzzrite, fuzz face, wooly mammoth, and couole others i believe. Will probably be about $15 for the boards, and probably $50 in parts.
