Heroin is the be all and end all of feeling great while on drugs. Musicians have access to incredibly pure, potent, and safe drugs, and the fact that most heroin a regular person could obtain is probably filled with dangerous adulterants deters a lot of people from using it. They don't have this problem so they get addicted. Also, touring sucks, and anything you can do to relax while traveling for 12 hours on a tour bus to your next show seems good to a musician.
