How people can say that Piper at the gates of Dawn is Pink Floyd's best album is beyond me. It's honestly entirely unfathomable to me how you could prefer it over what I think is PF's golden era (Dark side, Wish You Were Here, Animals, The Wall). There's just so much more on offer musically and lyrically in those 4 albums that there is in their earlier stuff. Over their entire discography, Echoes was PF's turning point. That song sparked an upward trend in quality in my eyes and it was where they really found their sound.

Actually they stayed pretty decent up to Dark Side of The moon but they were pretty mediocre after Syd left!

Other bands that got progressively worse would be Black Sabbath who nose dived after Volume 4. The Who after Quadrophenia and let's face it Led Zepplin NEVER had a good album!
