I finally listened to this entire album yesterday. Can someone explain to me why this isn't considered one of the great masterpieces of rock music? It doesn't focus on some central concept, fine, but it's 2 hours of nonstop outstanding music, and there's absolutely no filler, and it never really gets repetitive.
>>70996672
>>The entirety of Gone
Agreed anon it might be my fav kanye song

It's a decade defining album and pretty much canonized as an all time great already.
But yeah, it's an amazing album front to back.

I was in highschool when this album came out. 1979 was crazy popular at the time and I get filled with so much nostalgia when I hear it. It's sort of fucked up how when you're young like that you're filled with anxiety and you wish your days away but then when you think back you're filled with such sweet memories and longing for that time back.
>>70997434
>>70998251

>Would you leave me too?
>>70996813
It is one of the greatest rock masterpieces and probably one of the best double albums ever released. I think that some people interpret Corgan as being a huge whiner and it turns them off, and he really doesn't do any favors in that regard outside of his music. Otherwise, MCIS is a fucking master work.
>>70996813
It is.

To this day I don't know what the fuck that line means
>>70999147
Chills every single time.
I read an interpretation of How to Disappear Completely that took it as a representation of the mental distancing one might do when they "freeze" in a traumatic event, almost like an out of body experience. They used the example of a child being abused who is pretending he's somewhere else to get through the moment. I almost started crying.

it means that a lot of young people don't know how valuable their youth is til it's gone. it doesn't feel valuable at the time, it just feels like you're young and struggling. later, when you're older and wiser, your perspective broadens and you can see more places where that youthful energy could really be put to good use. but by then your own energy is waning, sapped by age and sometimes cynicism. "if I only knew then what I know now" etc.
also corgan boosted that line from somewhere else, but I don't remember where.
