half of the songs are set up to sound exciting but actually become boring. also for a band called the microphones you think there'd be some good recordings on this thing

The performances are really rough and amateurish at times but the ambition and overall songwriting quality completely nullify that downside. It's one of the most thematically cohesive albums I've ever heard and is excellently paced so that the entire thing stands out as being greater than the sum of the individual parts.

Good album, but it's an acquired taste that needs repeated listens.

people who don't like this album haven't listened to it properly. You gotta read the lyrics while listening. same with mount eerie and it was hot
