>>70966822
Everyone here is a 14 year old autist, what do you expect?
>>
>Now, a little background may be in order: For years, Guitar World published a one-off magazine, a buyer’s guide that featured—you guessed it—models posing with musical equipment. That mag may no longer be in production, but the internet remembers all and provided Clark with some ripe source material for her cover concept.

>“I did a quick Google search of women on the cover, and all I really saw was girls in bikinis holding guitars like they’ve never held a guitar before,” says Clark. “I started thinking about that and just wanted to make my own absurdist comment on it. I couldn’t really let it slide without poking a bit of fun and taking the piss a little!”

>Clark’s sly comment on the magazine—literally on the cover of the magazine—is definitely a kick-ass meta move. But her disruption of the status quo doesn’t stop there. Performing as the enigmatic, experimental St. Vincent, she has become what might best be described as a postmodern guitar hero, and for the last decade has been subtly injecting some truly exciting guitar playing into the pop music landscape.

>Kirk Hammett: “Well, I always thought that the Tube Screamer was great, and a classic sound, but after using one for 30-odd years or so, there have been other times where I’ve thought, ‘Wow, I wish I could get a little more bottom out of it,’ or, ‘if I could just compress it a little bit more for just this little situation,’ or, ‘if I could just get a little bit more of the Tube Screamer sound.’

>“I really wanted to just open it up and try and expand the potential of it. And so we expanded every knob: we took the tone knob - added top, added middle, added bottom - we took the gain, and added some compression and ways to work with that. And so, basically, we added more to it.”

>“I’m sure that people out there are screaming, ‘Heresy! Why is he messing with such a classic sound?’ I might be messing with a classic sound, but fucking hell, how are we gonna move forward if someone doesn’t cross the line somewhere?

>“We’re all very inspired and very, very excited about this. I think it’s the first time you’ll see a pedal company actually being driven by an actual guitar player - I really don’t know of any other guitar players out there who are actually making pedals.

>>

Yes, the 1 is already defined, the arpeggio needs more focus on the other notes that add color. And if you're playing an 11 arpeggio, skip the 3rd of the second octave and so on

Take a Bm9 for example:

|-----------------------------9--
|-------------------------10----
|------------------7-11--------
|-----------7-11---------------
|--------9-----------------------
|-7-10-------------------------

and a Bm11:

|-------------------------9-12--
|---------------------10---------
|------------------9-------------
|-----------7-11----------------
|--------9-----------------------
|-7-10--------------------------

Because apparently we need more evidence that guitar is being replaced by laptops. Now you can use a laptop to make relevant music while still being able to reach your novelty instrument(really what guitar has been since the 50s) to still feel like your years of practice still matter. Apple has always been ahead of the trends, its not different now.

Guitar is literally on life support.

gg help me improve my sense of rhythm and timing. I usually play guitar but was gifted a shitty knock-off bass and would love to learn the role of bass playing in hopes I can transfer whatever skills I get to guitar.

Well, you probably know the common ones

I I IV V(or any twist like I IV V IV or I IV V I or I IV V V)
I V vi IV

i VI III VII/vi IV I V(like Am F C G)
i i VI VII/vi vi IV V(like Am Am F G)
Then taking it to the iv/ii for the bridge(Dm for both of those)

Or the jazz one
ii V I I

My personal favorite for a poppy progression
I vii(partial, similar to the V, dimished chords are hard to work into pop) vi V IV IV IV IV
So this one, in C would be C (B and D or b minor 6th with no 5th) Am G F

I also really like minor progressions that dont start on the root
VI VII i i/IV V vi vi

So F G Am Am

Also, this is probably hard to understand because ive never had lessons or training in theory, just my ear and a few really thick books. Also, im drunk. But im sure you can figure it out.

Hofner guy here, I returned it today at GC but I also got to play this PJ Bass and it was amazing. It is quite long for what I'm used to (24" scale guitars) but it isn't as bad as I thought with a strap. Does anyone else have experience with P/J basses? I guy I know would sell his for $600 and they retail at $900 plus tax. He also has a CiJ mustang bass in aged Olympic white I might try out for the same price but this Surf Pearl one has a tone that's hard to beat

Ooh, this is a tough one, but only the initial jump. What you need to do is listen to drum tracks. The biggest thing is locking in to the kick pattern. Thats not to say that you have to hit every time the kick hits, or that you cant hit when hes not hitting, but you cant create a clashing rhythm(unless thats your goal, in most conventional music it's not).

Listen for the important hits.

The next thing is the dead air. Learn how to fill the space between the important hits.

Listen for when its appropriate, like a transition where the singer isnt singing, the guitar/keys are moving to a new chord, drummer isnt doing much, put a fill in.

The coolest thing about bass is how you can accentuate things. If you have a solid drummer hes not going to improv his fills, theyre going to be the same everytime. Lock in with them, it always sounds cool when pulled off. Same thing with a guitar player repeating a single note line, lock in some times with the same notes hes playing.

One thing i like doing in parts that are super energetic is locking the root to the kick, then hitting the octave with the snare.

Thats just a couple ideas. You can play walking lines in 1/4 and 1/8 notes, or swing it. Theres a traditional walking bass line in blues where you walk it with the rhythm the guitar player is using.

Jazz and funk bass players do a whole lot more too, its all about feeling. Look up some bass backing tracks on youtube and fill the emptiness.

Ive never played a pj, but a p bass is the rock sound. J bass is really smooth. The only concern id have is that i rarely use the bridge pickup on basses that have 2 soapbars. Its not bad, but i prefer the sound you get from less treble ib the position the split pup is in. If you want a rock sound itll be able to pull that off, but i really like a dead no attack sound that might be harder to get from that bridge. If its able to get the sound you want then go for it, fender makes fine basses and everyone's ears are different.

No problem brother. There are typically 2 types of bassists, rhythmoc and melodic. If you can master both sides then you'll blow people's minds. For me bass is much easier than guitar. Guitar is a constant struggle between filling out the sound with chords or to add detail with leads, with bass it starts to come naturally where to go.

I don't own this exact model, but I do have a Fender Deluxe Active P Bass Special which is similar to this one. I've played that exact one at GC and I love it. The J neck width (which is smaller than the P bass baseball neck) makes it easy to move around if you need to; the looks are sweet (love the black block inlays, although it only comes in that green and sunburst); and the J pickup with the P configuration allows you blend the pickups (as evident by the two pickups knobs). I've found that this bass can do it all, but not exactly hit the true P sound 100% - more like 98% there but good enough - same for the J sound. Regardless, if you can find one of these for the 600 you claim, get it ASAP. The price on this is near a grand; for a Mexican made instrument (which isn't bad!) does not command that type of money. Hell, if I can find one that cheap I'd buy it!

How do I get better at knowing what to play on guitar by just listening to it and not looking up any tabs or anything.
>>
I prefer ibenis basses, just sayin...

Practice scales and chords. Honestly. You can develop relative pitch from scales, which will allow you to figure out single note lines and power chords. Learning chords will allow you recognize them in songs. Learning scales will allow you to hear what key a song is in, and then know what notes will be in it.

Take a scale, play the root, then play a random note that is in the scale. Listen for that tension, that tension will always be the same between 2 notes at an equal distance.

Listen to "symptom of the universe" by sabbath, that main riff has a flat fifth interval, the interval with the most tension, and itll always sound that way. Either between the E and Bb in that song, or D and Ab, or whatever.

I don't like the punchy grindy sound of the pbass and the J pick up is tinny because its the bridge position.

Personally, I think the Dimension bass is the way to go.
